I live in a very rural area. I made this quilt, custom for a lady that told me last week "she just couldn't afford it right now". Again, her attempt to get me to lower my price AFTER she knew the price when she ordered it back in August.

No, she did not lose her job, she is very well secure with money, but she "tried" to get my price way down. I already took $25 off for her.

Anyways, my mailman loves John Deere. I stopped him today, and he bought my quilt for more than the other lady would have! YAY! He paid CASH too!

So, I got lucky this time! From now on, I get a non-refundable deposit and a signed contract.

Whew! Thank-you all for your understanding and words of advice in my previous post. You all are just awesome!

Very cool! It sounds like your mailman was in the right place at the right time.

Cheers, K

I am soooo happy for you!!!! that is just great that you got someone to buy it for you.

wolfkitty 11-01-2010 09:12 AM

I'm glad it worked out well for you, and so soon!

Antdebby1 11-01-2010 09:13 AM

Congratulations!

cherylynne 11-01-2010 09:15 AM

The right person got the quilt and you received your payment for the work. Happy ending!!

joan_quilts 11-01-2010 09:15 AM

I wonder if this lady will call in a few weeks and want the quilt? ROFL Won't she be mad that I already sold it! LOL

Quilt Mom 11-01-2010 09:18 AM

Sounds like your mailman was the one who needed the quilt, not the person who ordered it. Glad he got it, and you got paid.

plainjane 11-01-2010 09:23 AM

Good for you! Some people are just not ready to pay for quality.

You kind of have to wonder if this was her plan all along. Glad you were able to sell the quilt to someone who appreciates all your hard work.

mommamac 11-01-2010 10:33 AM

It was meant 'to be'!

KatFish 11-01-2010 11:09 AM

Glad it worked out for you. I loved your JD quilt.

charmpacksplus 11-01-2010 11:36 AM

I've been following this story and I have a theory. When we see something we love and can buy it right then and there, we pay the asking price. When we have to wait for something, sometimes the love can wear off and we don't want it so badly anymore, or use the money for something else.

I think that's what happened here. The one who ordered it would have bought it if it had been already made.... like the mail man did.

This is what I tell people about the things I make..... Sorry, no custom orders.

Contracts would cause me great stress.... I'm too old for that. :D

I was just going to say. I wonder what she will do when she realizes that you are not lowering the price and already sold it. I would tell he offered more than you actually quoted her. LMAO

boxerlady 11-01-2010 12:20 PM

great!

She'll probably be mad because you sold "her" quilt, although she didn't want it bad enough to pay for it. She probably thinks that she could wear you down, belittle your work enough that you would cave in. There is just not pleasing this type person. I can just hear it now.....Keep us posted-I'm bookmarking this one!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 11-01-2010 12:26 PM

Well looks like she missed out, glad you were able to sell it to someone who knew instantly that he liked it!! If she comes back later w/a different offer cash up front or a stiff deposit on somthing different. :)

Think if sold on commission, Limits would be what's on Hand or you pick the color, that way I know would be working on somthing you liked :)

amma 11-01-2010 12:27 PM

Glad to hear this ended up with a happy ending for you and your mailman :D:D:D

Bluphrog 11-01-2010 12:44 PM

If she comes back and still wants it, you know what to do -- set a firm price, get a signed commitment and get a non-refundable deposit. Now that you know how much it will sell for, I'd ask for at least 50%.

Congratulations on the sale.

If she really wanted it she could have saved the money or paid it off before you gave it to her. BEWARE she may ask for her $25 back. I am glad you got more than what you asked for in the end. Congratulations.

watterstide 11-02-2010 02:06 AM

Awesome! Good for you! glad it took a turn for the better!

BevD 11-02-2010 02:12 AM

Well done on selling it!! Sounds like it ended up where it was supposed to...

joan_quilts 11-02-2010 04:17 AM

This lady never gave me any money. I offered to lower my price by $25, but she still didn't want it.

In hindsight, I should have known better than dealing with her. She is my daughter-in-laws aunt, and this family is "known" for being rip offs. They are a strange bunch, I could tell you some stories you would never believe! LOL

She can call, but I am sure by now, knowing that I told my daughter in law I sold the quilt, she knows.

Oh, I will make the local gossip chain, AGAIN, and somehow be the bad guy. This family thrives on gossip and they are always the victim.

I don't care, the quilt is sold, it was never her quilt, and the man who bought it will take good care of it.

At least I got money for heating oil and can stay warm a few months! LOL

Justquilting 11-02-2010 04:21 AM

Congratulations on the sale!
The right person got the quilt!

shopaholic97 11-02-2010 05:06 AM

I am so happy that you sold it to someone who would appreciate it.

sandpat 11-02-2010 05:25 AM

Good for you! I'm happy that you didn't loose out, the mailman gained and the lady lost her quilt. Serves her right....

I am glad then. Let them talk but if some one asks tell them it was the lady's fault, she did not want it when she had the chance. well done.

Therese 11-02-2010 06:11 AM

The mailman was probably thrilled at his luck in being able to buy such a beautiful quilt! I'm happy for you and him!

bgullett 11-02-2010 06:13 AM

Thats great! I made a quilt for a lady and she has made payments. I gave the quilt to her with $145.00 to pay me. She has much $$$ but she is sending payments. I guess I am lucky?

Connie in CO 11-02-2010 06:40 AM

You have to do what you have to do.

amandasgramma 11-02-2010 06:41 AM

That's wonderful!!!!!!!!!

CarrieAnne 11-02-2010 07:15 AM

(Appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes those who look like they are wealthy may be the most in debt.)

Yarn or Fabric 11-02-2010 07:25 AM

Good for you! I'm glad you were able to sell it.
I don't think I'd want to deal with that kind of a person anyway... I tend to tell people I'm too busy if they are a pain to deal with...

Annaquilts 11-02-2010 07:27 AM

I am so glad the quilt went home with some one who appreciates it and that you got paid for your hard work. Thanks for letting us know how this ended.

wolph33 11-02-2010 07:50 AM

oldswimmer 11-02-2010 08:10 AM

I'm so glad this got resolved so well for you. You have more than your asking price and the mailman has a quilt he loves. The original customer loses out.

Charmpacks, I totally agree. Sometimes I put things in my cart and when I review it before I leave the store, I find that I have already changed my mind and return the items to their places. I come to my senses. My dtr used to hate me doing this when we'd shop together. I guess just those few minutes of 'owning' it, was good enough for me. I am perfectly happy to walk away without the item. People are funny.

LaurieE 11-02-2010 10:33 AM

I'm glad it worked out for you.
