Flying_V_Goddess 04-04-2011 09:28 AM

My boyfriend was up a few days ago---been a rough week for the family so he came up for support and stayed a couple days. He took me to the same quilt shop he took me to on my birthday one of those days.

I usually don't buy fabric unless I have a specific plan for it. This time I left with 11 different fabrics...only 3 of them were for a specific project. I only have vague ideas for the other fabrics:
*Two green for when I decide its right to make a quilt for my boyfriend (he really likes green. Have no design in mind right now)
*Two purples for that cathedral quilt I have in my head (purple diamonds on a black background)
*A watercolor pink with a little bit of batik in it (I think I was thinking that one baby quilt I designed one time when I bought it.)
*Three blues because I want to make "something in blue" (didn't have an idea at the time, but right now Japan has inspired me to make my Tsunami design in different blues---kind of a varigated effect)

I spent like $35---that's the most I've spent at any fabric place at one time.

I think its official: I'm stash building.

Your lucky, my stash building usually cost me a lot more than that. LOL

Rose Hall 04-04-2011 09:45 AM

Be thankful you got out for only $35. I think my LQS charges that much just to look around.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sorry, but I can't help it . That one just cracked me up :D

sahm4605 04-04-2011 09:53 AM

ummmmmmm the only problem I can see is that you need to take another trip to the quilt shop for some more fabrics. And If you got a yard of each then you really have a problem and need to go back to satisfy it with more fabric purchased. :-)
BTW do they have an online store? If the fabrics are really cheap I want to get me some. especially the batiks.

$35 is probably the least amount I've ever spent for fabric at one time.

You are on your way to becoming the dreaded " Fabriholic"!
Theres no known cure, but the good news is they all show up on here.

Lori S 04-04-2011 03:09 PM

You know its hard to stop the building process once it gets started. Ask me how I know ... 40 years of building ... not sure how high or big this is going to get !

I can't ever recall ever leaving a QS without spending.....well lets say a lot more than $35 and felt like I'd done good. If I had only spent that amount my husband would probably take me to the doctor or he'd have a heart attack ;)

kaykwilts 04-05-2011 03:43 AM

You realize, I hope, that once you start down this path, you will never be the same...suddenly, every piece of fabric becomes a way to build your stash.....the "new" clothes you see hanging in the stores, the forays into the local thrift stores to see if you can add something to your stash, the sudden screech of your tires to stop at a garage sale.."maybe they will have something I can add to my stash"

You reach a point where you no longer have any ideas in mind for a piece a fabric you purchase...you just like it and want to add it to the "stash"!!

Or you decide you don't own enough solids, enough blues, enough reds, etc.......and on into infinity!!!

ok, you've been warned...now, go get some more!!!!

#1piecemaker 04-05-2011 04:25 AM

Yes, welcome to the club. I don't see the problem either.

materialgrl 04-05-2011 04:49 AM

Been there, done that, welcome to the club

CarrieAnne 04-05-2011 04:58 AM

Now, you just need to go back and get more, lol!

JNCT14 04-05-2011 05:48 AM

Maybe they should have a reality show called 'Fabric Hoarders'. And I can't say anything because I was at my mom's last night - she dabbles in quilting but really doesn't like it - sent me home with a bag of scraps, ends and yards which I spent an hour cackling over and sorting and categorizing by color and smoothing and patting and saying to my husband '.....and this color will be PERFECT for this project....' at which point he was firmly convinced that I had really lost my mind......

Scakes 04-05-2011 05:56 AM

Doesn't sound like you have a problem to me.

Tudey 04-05-2011 06:26 AM

Okay,so what's the problem?

I remember that design. It would be beautiful in blues.

We all have our vices! This is one of mine. When I enter a fabric store it is like a trip to Disneyland. I start off on the small rides, like Dumbo the flying Elephant, progress to the Matterhorn for the plunge, take a ride on Mr. Toad's Wild ride, then end up here on QB for "It's a small World".

Stitchit123 04-05-2011 06:42 AM

How 'd you do that you only spent $35 --- Are you giving lessons on restraint if so sign me up for next weeks class I can't start til after my Sprreeee tomorrow

Skid 04-05-2011 07:04 AM

Years ago I worked at JoAnns (bad idea for a fabricaholic!!) But one of my co-workers kept threatening to start a 12 step program for us!! Pretty Funny....

tntgranny 04-05-2011 07:24 AM

Once it starts it never ends.

JCquilts 04-05-2011 07:29 AM

Yep, its kind of like nesting, I think.

Welcome to the club.

Sallyflymi 04-05-2011 08:12 AM
