I was given some gorgeous fabric - grapes, vineyards, wine bottles etc and want to make a quilted tablecloth. Anyone have any ideas on this.

sounds pretty. sorry, have no suggestions

Any quilt pattern could be used for a table cloth. You have some choices, however. Some folks don't use batting, wanting a flatter product, some do use a thin batt. The nice thing is that you can size it to your table perfectly. I would just avoid a pattern that has lots of pieces coming into a single intersection, so you don't have a bump that would make a wine glass tip. You don't wan to be wasting any good wine!

I made one for my mom..I used the DP9 and basically made it the size of a throw. It gave enough hang to look really nice on the table. Didn't do anything special..with quilting or batting...what look are you going for? What are your concerns?

I made a tablecloth and it's reversible. Thanksgiving on one side and Christmas on the other. I want to do more of these with other holidays. I used a batting that is insulated for heat so that I don't have to worry about hot pads.

this is a link to the one I did earlier this year. I have batting in it and was LA quilted. |
I have one a friend made as the fabric was too pretty she felt to cut it up. She cut it a little smaller than size I wanted, added a smaller border then another border using the french braid rows all around. Hope that makes sense. It was very pretty

I saw one on the net. The top was one piece, two narrow borders, then a wider dorder using blocks with jars. I've seen the jar blocks usually on shelves. I had saved that pic. for so long thinking I'd make one, never did. LOL.

Here is a simple one I made. Used flannel for the backing so did not use any batting (I don't think). I directed the squares in each center star to be directed to people sitting around the table.

I made one with Thermore batting.........nice and light and drapes well. I agree with one who said no patchwork with multiple seams ie: stars with dense centers etc. The size would depend on your table. I like the reversible idea! Good luck and show us pics after!
