When people posted their quilts they would include details that the picture doesn't tell, like is it machine pieced, machine quilted, hand appliqued....... and so on. I find it frustrating to see beautiful quilts and not know the details.

Me too! I thought I was the only one. And when I ask specific questions many OP don't come back with the details. Then I think maybe I am being to nosey. I love the technical details of a quilt.
I also thrive on the quilting details, like was it done on LA or DSM? Was it marked prior to quilting? How did you do it (stencil, transfer, tracing with light box, etc). I also wish LA would specify when they post a picture if the quilting was computer generated or hand guided. Did they do ruler work. Is it a panto? if so maybe include the panto design name. |
I always thought that people just wanted to see the finished quilts.

Many do just want to see the finished quilt but many of us are very technically oriented about the construction, would like to know the pattern name, the technique used to acheive the beautiful results being posted because we may wish to try doing that quilt ourselves. I am that way just because I am curious and it helps me to learn. For example, I am a beginning long armer. When I see posts of quilted quilts done by longarm it is very helpful for me to know if they are computer generated to help reassure my budding skill and fragile self esteem that it is not humanly possible to acheive that kind of symmetrical perfection in a quilted motif through hand guiding. |
I thrive on every detail. Hopefully we can let the members know we are eager for more, more, more!. The finished quilts are marvelous and the steps leading up to the finish are also marvelous.

I agree, would like more details, especially what machine was used for piecing or embroidery, etc.
|
I also like to know the name of the pattern and the book or magazine it came from. That makes it easier to add to my list!
|
I agree!! I need/want all the details.

My peeve is that they don't list the pattern name - and then you read numerous pages of asking for pattern info....
|
This is good to know and when I post pictures I will try to accomodate. I, too, like all the details, but thought I was being too nosy. It is just fascinating to see all these ideas that others have and to know how it was done ... even if I never want to do the same thing. We are just naturally curious I guess.
Thanks for the topic. |

I agree with everyone so far. I am in the early learning stages of quilting myself. I have sewn all kinds of craft and household projects for many years but quilting is still new to me. The more info given the more ideas that other quilters especially beginners can learn from. Being creative is a group process. I think it is safe to say that we all can and would love to learn something new. I don't even know all of the quilting lingo for tools and processes and techniques yet. So please share as much as possible about your projects.
Feed the creative need! |
Good thread. I hope people take notice. The quilt shows and museums routinely include information like this with their displays, but on the computer it's even better because if I see something I don't know about, I can immediately research.

If I ever get another one done, I will let you know all about it! LOL! Still recovering in the bending my head down area, so I haven't been sewing lately. And I am a serious procrastinator! But my oldest son is making some not so subtle hints that he wants me to finally finish his crazy log cabin.
