So I am, I believe, the only quilting student on campus, and our local initiatives group on campus is hosting a Farmer's Market, and like an idiot I thought it might be fun to try and have a booth for the hour break I get on the day they're having it.

The problem? I'm finishing up a quilt now, and I've got until April 20th to come up with maybe 7-8 small to medium items to at least display. I don't think for a moment that I'll sell anything, but I think it would be fun to have little things for sale for folks.

Does anyone have ideas for simple to make items that could be made in a day or so? I like to think I'm pretty advanced sewing wise, it's more of an issue with time. I was thinking maybe small hand bags, or some strip scarves I saw instructions for somewhere.

Fun! I saved this link of small craft ideas a while ago, thinking it might come in handy someday. Maybe today it has. :)

Good luck!

Those little round potholders where you put your thumb on one side and two fingers on the other. Can't remember what they are called. They sell really well. Small table toppers sell well. Small cosmetic bags with a zipper. Quilted wallets. Hope this helps.

Good luck!

*facepalm* DUH, keychains! I can't believe I didn't remember that, I was eyeing a whole bunch of ribbon and stuff the other day because toni from Make it Perfect posted a ribbon shop. Thank you for posting that link, I'll have to get cracking (and ordering ;)).

"snap" bags--mug rugs-totes--table toppers-dolls--bears.

Here are a few ideas...
The Abbey Bag, similar to the "dump bag" for wounded soldiers, but this version is so much easier to make. Could be used on a chair arm for the non-sewer. The 10 Minute Table Runner (? name), find a link at Little Quilts. Little Quilts also has a cute idea for Tea Towels embellished with fabric and the super wide ric rack. Grocery Bags, google for some patterns.

Well... I went back to look at Little Quilts and couldn't find the Table Runner or Tea Towels. Google them and you will find ideas.

cover large buttons with fabric of choice... the thread hair bands thru "buttob shank" for cute pony tail holders

Since it's a Farmers Market - concentrate on some of the "food" fabrics that are so lovely. Potato microwave cookers, pot holders, cake covers, cassarole carriers ....

Simple bags...they'll need them to put all those market goodies in, or books, or groceries. Can never have enough fabric grocery bags.

Thanks for all the ideas guys! It's a pretty small affair, and there's usually not enough vendors to really qualify it as a farmer's market, but it's been really nice in the past and I want to try and add to the variety. Heck, might even skip classes in the name of promoting it! :D Of course, this means I get to spend money on ribbons and webbing and stuff... Good thing I got paid!

How about shopping bags?

lclang 03-29-2011 07:36 PM

Mug rugs, pillow cases, potholders, luggage tags, table runners, dog toys, dog treats, cloth shopping bags, placemats, purses made from little boys overalls (cut the legs off and sew across the bottom, suspenders are handles. add buttons, yoyos, extra pockets, linings if desired). Also quilted postcards, coasters, candle mats, etc.
