Ideas for motorcycle theme?
 

My cousin is now engaged and he and his fiance have moved to the cold part of the country (formerly SC). I want to get started on planning a wedding quilt for them, but do want to incorporate motorcycles in there. I don't want it screaming motorcycles or use motorcycle fabric as I don't know what types of bikes they have (I just know they aren't Harleys). Suggestions? Examples? I would be making a queen sized quilt. Both are in their mid to late 40s (2nd marriage for both).

I made a Harley quilt for my DH. I found the fabric on eBay, some of it had the Harley logo, and some was just motorcycle theme. Maybe you should find out the type/brand of motorcycle so you can pick the right color scheme. I think that Honda's have a red logo.....I found a black coordinating fabric that looks like asphalt at my LQS. Good Luck!

I made one years ago and used a Harley bandana as the center.

Hubby and I both bike. There are a lot of novelty prints that have general themed motorcycles on them. Maybe use a little of that fabric. Maybe base the better part of the quilt on the motorcycle's colors?

Speaking as a rider some can get pretty particular about the bikes they ride harley/honda/BMW... like the guys used to be about ford and chevy lol ( ok older ,country girls I know you will understand the ford/chevy thing lol) so be carful with pics.
How about some type of open road theme ? land scape fabrics /trees etc or a panel of the outdoors split into with a road disapearing into the distance etc.
Or if you can get some pics of them together on the bikes would also be an idea . I made a photo quilt to surprise someone once and nabbed all the photos off of facebook !

I'd like to say that flames, dragons and skulls seem to be big for bikers too. Maybe some leather-looking fabric too?

I just "googled" motorcycle themed fabric" and found lots of choices.
You probably would feel better about making the quilt if you knew the brand of motorcycle and/or colors that interest them. Depending on the fabric you choose, it could be used more as an accent than a major focus. Something subtle.

I found some Route 66 fabric on fabric.com that I'm using to make my grandson a quilt for Christmas. It's the attic window pattern with the print in the window and three shades of blue for the windowpanes.

I'm currently making a bday quilt for a friend who just turned 60th and lives on his bike. He drives a harley....the quilt pattern I'm using is the Big & Bold pattern by cozy quilt designs. I have a embroidery machine, so I searched for a harley bike that was the closest to his bike, also purchased embroidery pack that had boots, vest, chaps, helmet ect...I randomly am picking blocks out of the quilt and embroidering on them I think I will have around 6 or 7 randomly embroidered blocks. The label will also have a design on it.... I would somehow find out what kind of bikes they ride, as mentioned bikers are quite piticular about their brand of bike...just another note....no where did I use biker themed fabric...just didn't want it screaming biker....

Years ago my son and I toured some raleys in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Texas</st1:place></st1:State>. I did free hand chain stitch emb on their jackets, ect. One club wanted their club make into a design. My son drew their name with out of shape rounded letters for the chrome on the cycle to simulate the center then drew the tires, colored the fenders the color of their cycle. It was a big hit. I would enlarge a pattern of letters, and go from there. It could be just a drawing and done as a whole cloth.<o:p></o:p>

This would be a big hit. I would take newspaper and take it to their leather seats and make a pattern. Then emb it, then pad it quilt it and sew elastic around the edges. The point was to decorate it and cover that hot leather seat for sitting on. It gets hot enough to burn you after sitting in the sun! <o:p></o:p>
If you find out the make and model of their bike, go to local dealers or clubs, they will help you locate a like one to make a pattern. I did that for out of people who ordered after I came home.<o:p></o:p>
