If you have a designated room for quilting what color are your walls? I'm in the process of re=doing my room mostly because of the flooring. I have carpet in there now and want to go to hardwood or laminate. And I thought that before we do the floor, I will repaint. What color do you love for your room?
Sandy

I would have a very pale green...it is restful and very pretty.

My room used to be a light blue but felt cold and I hated going in there to do my craft work or anything. I repainted it a muted yellow, not a real bright yellow, but a lovely warm yellow. I now love being in there (unless it's too cluttered lol).
I still have carpet in my room but would love wooden floors.

Have fun choosing. A 'new' room is wonderful!

My sewing room. Hope is shows the color well.

Eww, I love your room, Quiltingranny! So restful. I love yellow but the room faces the south and even with one window I've heard to avoid yellow. But I really, really like the color you've chosen.

no1jan 06-05-2010 03:51 AM

Sorry, I don't have my own room. I use the whole house!

I do have blinds that I lower when the sun hits that room. It faces a bit southwest (more west than south) so the sun hits pretty hard in the afternoon.

My whole house is done in beige, laminate floors. I am so tired of beige. I painted my sewing room turquoise! White trim. When you go in there, you know it is different, you do not have to wonder.

I am in the process of cleaning and organizing due to new storage options, will post pics when done.

My room is "spring green" it has a very creative feel to it, its the one room in the house that is mine and I didnt want it to be traditional like the rest of the house. All the accents & shelving are in white.

saf45 06-05-2010 04:00 AM

my room is white with different color accents

I have a lovely basement woodgrain paneling from the 70's. My goal is to cover it with my design board 7' x 4' and pegboard to hold my sewing tools which will all be white. Then the rest of the ugly stuff I will cover with quilts. My husband offered to paint it white but I knew that is a project that would have delayed moving into the room for months....I didn't want to wait!

My room has no windows, so I painted it a really soft yellow. I have carpet & now wish I had wood... It would be so much easier to swifter all those threads lol But it's a basement & the floor was uneven - it would have been way too much work to try to level it :)

candi 06-05-2010 04:11 AM

My room is soft lavender, or is that lilac? Purple shades are supposed to promote creativity :)

brushandthimble 06-05-2010 04:22 AM

My room is a soft green, including the ceiling, I love it. Looked to post a picture but the walls look white in all the pictures.

CarrieAnne 06-05-2010 04:24 AM

Aw, your room is so nice! I dont have a sewing room yet, but when I do, it will be pink or purple. Something pastel, but cheerful! I would want HW floors too, but all our upstairs rooms are carpet too, and too expensive to replace!

tmg 06-05-2010 04:25 AM

When I had my sewing room it was a light wood grain paneling. I gave it up so my girls could have their on room. when I get it back I'm thinking of a light lavender or a mint green. It is a soft color and pleasing to the eye.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-05-2010 04:28 AM

QuiltingGrannie and Dove- your rooms are beautiful. Both lovely shades of yellow :) My sewing room is a soft white- I really like it.
I am such a wimp with paint colors- I've had some bad experiences :D:D:D

sandyl 06-05-2010 04:33 AM

WOW, Dove your space (bigger than a room)is to die for. Your walls look to be about the same color as quiltingranny's. I love the brightness! And the lighting you have is great. Thanks for the pics.

binthepink 06-05-2010 04:36 AM

My room has two hotpink walls. They are the ones I face the most when sewing because it makes me happy! I left two walls white where my design board is and what you can see from the hall. When I tell people about my pink walls they think I am crazy, but when they see it they like it.

deedum 06-05-2010 05:08 AM

My room has wallpaper, since we just bought the house recently, not crazy about the wallpaper, but I can hang alot of things on the wall. No one notices the holes then. It also has carpet, dislike the carpet totally! I think it is much nicer to design your own quilting room than to buy one. It is what it is. Happy to have a quilting room!

JudyG 06-05-2010 05:11 AM

Smart idea to get rid of the carpet before you make it your sewing room. That's the one thing I don't like about my room - the carpet, but it's so full of stuff there's no way I could get DH to move it all out and put down wood or laminate. My room faces southeast and it is painted yellow, with a blue and yellow border around the top. I absolutely love it. It's bright and cheery. Don't have a picture at the moment, but if I get a chance later today, I will take one.

bj 06-05-2010 05:25 AM

DH just painted the house. He says mine are Coastal Plains (green). I've been in it since we painted, but couldn't remember which color ended up in there. I do remember that I liked it way better than the white that was in there.

Janetlmt 06-05-2010 05:37 AM

My sewing room is painted a light yellow with the trim painted ivory. I stenciled daisies and vines near the doors. The floor is gray laminate.

Chasing Hawk 06-05-2010 06:49 AM

The walls in my sewing room are painted with a color called Swiss Coffee.

Jim's Gem 06-05-2010 07:12 AM

My sewing room is the family room and I have blue with white cabinets, white sewing desk and white cutting table

Oh and oak computer desk.

Thequilteddove: I realllly like your sewing room. I like the feel of being in a basement with no windows. Mirrors can work wonders with the 'feel' of no windows. I love how you do it and am trying not to be envious of the racks on the wall you have your batting in. So much space. I love that for you.
Sandyl, good luck on your choice. I will be excited to see it when you are all done.
Quiltinggrannie: Your room looks very nice. Almost too nice to clutter with sewing or crafts. Very pretty.

kathy 06-05-2010 07:31 AM

mine are white to reflect the light, the older my eyes get the harder it for me to see what they're looking at

stitchinfrenzy 06-05-2010 07:35 AM

I got bored with the light green I had for so many years so I painted mine a color that resembles canteloupe. I don't know if it was the color itself or just repainting, but my creativity soared and I always feel better when I'm in there.

I LOVE that color! It is beautiful. Plus I am a sucker for flowers. Love those too!

My room is brown (paneling), but if I had a choice, I would want some kind of wallpaper. I really do not care for walls that are all one color.

thimblebug6000 06-05-2010 08:00 AM

Pale blue walls with white cabinets....but not alot of wall actually shows as I have wallhangings everywhere & a design board above some shelving.

Mine's a pale green, seen here:

Terryl 06-05-2010 08:13 AM

My room is a pale peach color

littlehud 06-05-2010 08:18 AM

I don't have a room, just a corner with a dinning room table behind me. If I did it would be yellow. Soft and warm yellow.

Mine is an eggshell off-white, very soft.
Hard wood floor
Shelving and a design wall cover most of the walls.
I did spring for window shades that block rays

quiltingbee12 06-05-2010 08:24 AM

My walls are bright green :)

Pineapple Princess 06-05-2010 09:01 AM

I'm just finishing up painting my room a pale leaf green. :)

This was my old room and from when I very first got started almost four years ago. Unfortunately it doesn't show "true" as the color was so pretty and calming, inspiring really. I kept the color swatch and would like to do a future sewing room that color again. I kept the muslin/yo-yo curtains too. We're about to move by the end of the month and the room I have currently is just plain ol' white textured walls.

grandma Janice 06-05-2010 11:03 AM

mine is a light yellow. After we painted, it was a little brighter than I thought I was getting but it makes the small room brighter and that's what I need.

Here you can see the color my room was. My GD lived with us for a while and that orange was her choice. I toned it down by sponge painting over it with a light beige ....now I can sew without sunglasses. The picture was taken several weeks ago before I finally got the room somewhat organized!

Ditter

oops....wrong picture...you can't see how intense the orange was!! :?
