I've been taking a little break from quilting to make new draperies for the living room and dining room. Not too much trouble with the drapery fabrics. THEN I get to the second part of the project -- making sheer curtains to go with them.
I've spent an untold number of hours cutting 21+ yards of 106" wide sheer fabric into 8 lengths, then cutting off 36" of the width on 7 of them, not to mention cutting off the selvage edges. Now I've got to sew them up. Ugh!! All I can say is if these things hang anywhere near straight I'll be flabberghasted. And I will NEVER, EVER do this again. Next time, just send me to JCPenney's or Sears for ready-made!!! |
Lowes has a great selection too :-)

oh my, wish you luck!

Hope you got that stuff cheap cause that's a lot of work for sheers. Geez, Walmart has them for next to nothing.
Use tissue paper to hold that stuff to the machine for sewing. Hugs |
I am a professional drapery seamstress and what you do with these sheers is railroad the fabric if the 106" is long enough for hems and headers. Which means....selvages go at the top and bottom. Then you just cut the width you need.
I know this is too late but maybe someone in the future will be helped by this.

It was actually an impulse purchase. DH and I were at JoAnn's picking up the drapery fabric we had ordered and I just happened to see this sheer fabric. It has a crinkly texture to it that I thought (think) looks nice and I had one of those wonderful 40% off coupons!! And the rest is history. As I said in another post, its OCFBD - Obsessive Compulsive Fabric Buying Disease!!

Oboy, if you have a serger this is the time to use it.
|
I had custom drapes made and then instead of sheer drapes we installed wooden blinds. Really easy to keep clean and open and close. I do want a serger one day. Just have too many other toys right now. LOL
|
I don't have drapes or curtains anywhere except the bedrooms. I have the honeycomb blinds in the living areas, the kind that lower from the top down. I keep the bottom half of the windows covered the top half open. I want all the daylight I can get in the house. I'd love a glass roof. LOL

Sending you lots of patience to get them finished .
