I had a fabulous 5 days with my Mom and sisters! The 3 day retreat was awesome! 45 ladies, ranging in age from 30 to well past 80, with so many diverse projects and ideas! Show and Tell was awe-inspiring and humbling.

The retreat was held in the auditorium of a local church in a town of about 500 people. Participants came from more than 100 miles away (I came the furthest--from Ontario to Saskatchewan). There were two vendors who were more than happy to go back to their shops for special requests. Meals were catered by a local restaurant and we were fed like royalty. Lunch and dinner every day, desserts to die for, culminating in a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, on the last evening.

I'm already making plans to return for next year!

The first photo is my Mom and me. She's 91. So glad I could spend a day with her.

The second is of my two sisters and me. The one on the left is 8 years older and the one on the right is 10 years older than me. Absolutely no family resemblance at all---right??

The third is part of my project on the flannel wall. I almost finished putting together all the blocks for a queen-sized quilt top. Next year--a smaller project and more time for demos, shopping and visiting!!

WOW!! Wish I could go on one of those! Looks like you had a great time, and your quilt is beautiful!! There is nothing better than time with family

jcrow 04-14-2012 10:15 AM

Sounds like the greatest retreat ever! I go to a retreat twice a year, when I can, but never so many people with such a diverse age difference. Your mother is a treasure. And yes, you all look alike. Your sister on the left looks more like your mom than anyone. You and your sister on the right look more alike. Glad you had such a great time and was able to spend precious time with your Mother. You will always treasure this retreat!

Glad you had a wonderful time. You indeed look very happy. You definately favor your beautiful mother. The quilt top is lovely as well.

I thinnk your Mom lloks great, I think you and your Sisters do look alike, from the nose up. Pretty quilt.

LindaM49 04-14-2012 04:53 PM

You mother does NOT look like she is 91. And although you look like your mom, I have to agree that you sister on the left looks exactly her. Sounds like a wonderful retreat and glad you had so much fun.

What a wonderful experience you all had to be together.

GingerK 04-14-2012 07:20 PM

Yes, it was a wonderful experience. My Mom may not look 91, but over the last year, she has developed some very significant health problems and really should not be living on her own or driving any more. I have really noticed how her memory has deteriorated too, which could cause some significant problems with taking medications.

Both my sisters are 24/7 caregivers to their spouses. Two of my nieces took time from their jobs, to take over caregiver duties so that they could attend the retreat. For my sisters, the retreat is a little island of personal peace and sanity, in a world where they really cannot call any time their own.

How fun. Your quilt is turning into a real beauty!!! Last fall my sisters, mom and I got together for a family sew in. Was planning on this being an annual event, but we all loved this so much that we are going to do it again end of this month and have it a bi annual get together!!! I just can't decide what to take!

Enjoy your mother every minute that you can. Mothers tend to the matters of the heart and it is such a loss when they are gone. Looks like you had a great time. I love your quilt. Very nice. sounds as though your sisters have heavy loads to carry. 24/7 is a lot.

Mickie612 04-15-2012 03:01 AM

What a beautiful family. Your Mother is not really 91, maybe 70 and you and your sisters are cut from the same cloth. Treasure these times.

What a wonderful thing to spend time with mother and sisters

LindaM49 04-15-2012 05:22 AM

Ginger, I had to laugh at something you said in your post. My best friend's husbands mother is 94. We were talking about her a few weeks ago and he said..."well mom is 94 and we (his sisters) were finally able to talk her into giving up her driver's license". His mom is in great health, outlived 2 husbands, and has a permanent home in Florida and a 2nd home in North Carolina. Friend and hubby were just in FL for 8 weeks and my friend said...his mom is just as spiteful as she has always been. Example: my friend got up early and made a pot of coffee. His mom comes out and says...your coffee is too strong so I'll just make a cup of instant. lol

hairquilt 04-15-2012 05:26 AM

Oooohh that is so Special!! How do you find a retreat to go to? Sounds like a lot of fun!!

luvstoquilt 04-15-2012 07:35 AM

Welcome back, glad to hear you had a great time.

katesnanna 04-16-2012 06:10 AM

Glad you all had a great time.Your mum has passed on some good genes to you and your sisters. Retreats are so much fun. I have been to one for the last 3 years. Plenty of quilting, lots of laughter, great company, no cooking,no cleaning , all meals supplied. We only go from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon but it seems longer than only 2 days. I already have my name down for next year.
We go to Mt. Tambourine in Queensland. It is so peaceful.

kylenstevesmom 04-16-2012 06:23 AM

Where in SK was this retreat????

I was born and raised north of Swift Current, and I would have made the time to go out too!!!

It looks like it was a great time.

Your quilt is pretty and all 4 of you could pass for sisiters. Isn't time spent with family wonderful and much more meaningful as we get older. Thanks for sharing glad you had a good trip.

Sounds like you had fun! I'm looking forward to our Guild retreat over Mother's Day weekend--my mom, sis and daughter are joining me! My Mom and daughter did last year and we had a blast--my mom says this year she's not going to bring her machine (just do some embroider work for me) cause she wants to talk to people. I'm really looking forward to this retreat--despite the fact that I have both a flower girl dress and mother of groom outfit to make for my son's early June wedding--yikes!
