A very pretty soap store asked me if i would be willing to put a quilt in their window as a display....AWESOME - It's a very county theme...I'm honored...but i need to get it done ASAP and I don't want to take the entire window up with the quilt...but i have none that are like 45x45 ...all ones i have are twins and very large lap and a few queens...

I'm drawing a blank on what to make...i have spent 5 hrs on it so far today and i am just mush. I was thinking a bear paw quilt (she has a large stuffed bear sitting in a bathtub named nora)...but i just don't know :-(

Can you use one that you already have to remove the stress
of making a quick one? (could be folded or hung to take less
space) Any where you can look for one already made for
a bargain while making one?

taiboo 08-08-2011 10:21 AM

no....they are all way to big, plus they are modern looking...she has a country store - they would stand out like a sore thumb lol

Drape the larger ones over a stool or something so only part shows.

Have you looked at lap quilt patterns? They are about that size :D:D:D

Painiacs 08-08-2011 11:07 AM

lap size would prpb be best size!!

Lucky Stars (Atkinson Designs) is a very quick and easy pattern that would look great in country colors. See the sample in my avatar. Each block is 15 inches.

Imagine an old fashioned Wicker clothes basket, with the twin quilt folded into quarters, then laid askance in and across the basket. Clothes pins, a cotton clothes line coiled around, an empty box of laundry soap (an old-fashioned kind), maybe a scattering of mis-matched socks, some doll dresses... and a funny pair of boxer shorts... can you see it in your mind's eye? How about some old embroidered "Days of the Week" hand towels that say "Monday's Child is Fair of Face" "Tuesday's Child is full of Grace" ... etc. and some that List the chores Washday Monday, Ironing Tuesday, (whatever). Let this be the decoration of the window while you think of one you want to do.

How about:
"Cabin in the Mountains", Finished size: 27" x 35 1/2"
"Fill Your Heart With Song," Finished Size 20 1/2" x 24 1/2"
"Tumbling Leaves" Finished quilt: 27x45

A bear paw sounds good also.

I'm sorry I thought you wanted a small quilt, but you could always make these bigger if you wanted.

Scrappy log cabin or just scraps on muslin looking background

A log cabin or carpenter's star would work up quickly and you could adjust to the size you want.

You should just make a simple patch quilt. Maybe even just out of charms. Sometimes the simplest and easiest quilts look best. I bet that would go well with her country theme. That would satisfy your urgent need to get something done immediately. Then you could start working on something more intricate if you so choose to display and finish on your time.

I think just about any quilt looks country...

Barb44 08-08-2011 04:02 PM

Churn Dash made with calicos, or small flower prints and solids in soft colors would be very country. It would be quick and easy. Or a simple sampler is very country. Really what makes a quilt country are the fabrics. Homespuns work well too. I can think of all kinds of patterns and fabrics. Do a search of internet images for country quilts for ideas.

That will be beautiful, but I thought you wanted easy and fast. LOL

taiboo 08-08-2011 08:09 PM

I think that one will fly...its pretty much all half square triangles for the most part and rectangles... (I THINK LOL)

I think we have different definitions of "simple" or "fast and easy"!
Have fun.

I think simple for County would be the best... I would choose your fabrics and go from there.
