This is an old topic but finally was able to get to Harbor Freight and bought "45mm replacement blades" for my Fiskar Rotary cutter. They are sold as "replacement carpet cutter blades" # 97642, $1.49 for a pkg of 2. I was to cheap to pay the shipping and knew I would be going to Spokane so waited. Actually sent my husband in and he bought 4 pkgs.
Not sure who first mentioned these but THANK YOU and to all the newbies, this is a GREAT buy.

Yes, and they are great to use!

My DH was so shock that I ask to go to Harbor Freight. just gave me the look !!! when I told him what I needed

QuiltnCowgirl 05-19-2011 10:51 AM

Just don't do like I did & buy 10 packages...and then realize that I have a 60mm rotary cutter not a 45mm rotary cutter LOL

OOPS! :)
Would they not let you exchange for the correct size?

No, they only make one size for the carpet cutting blades unfortunately. Hopefully they let her return them.

Or maybe it's a good time to invest in a 45mm cutter?

jacee kay 05-19-2011 11:36 AM

I was very disapointed when I went they were out of blades. Would have 32 pkgs next day. We live about 60 miles from Tulsa so I won't be back for a while.

blossom808 05-19-2011 11:40 AM

Great information. thanks

I didn't even try to return them. Put them away for now & sometime soon I will use a JoAnn's coupon & get me a 45mm. Especially since my 60mm is just about ready for a new blade :D

greenini 05-19-2011 11:57 AM

If you do the monthly swap they make great tuck ins!

sueisallaboutquilts 05-19-2011 01:23 PM

May be an old topic for some but there's always someone new who can benefit!!

Oh yea! I couldn't believe the savings. I always thought it was crazy that we had to pay so much for blades and when i saw all the posts about HF I just had to order. Not only can I get the round ones-I found out I can get my wallpaper blades ( I'm a wp hanger) about 75 percent cheaper. yea to harbor freight and yea to the quilting board!

dinlauren 05-19-2011 04:18 PM

Mine is always out. Other quilters get there before I do I am told....lol Poor carpet guys......i feel for them....lol

hairquilt 05-19-2011 04:43 PM

Took me 2 tries to actually find them in stock. $1.49 made my day. I bought 8 packages & didn't realize there were 2 in each one. Made me even happier!!LOL

NY-Flaquilter 05-20-2011 03:02 AM

I also have ordered blades from them and love them My husband ordered me 80 packages on line, they said they were back ordered but two days later they were shipped. One of my friends said she had a cutter that didn't take the round center and I told here for the price of the blades it is worth going and buying a cutter that took HF blades.

teddysmom 05-20-2011 03:49 AM

Do you know if they have a 60mm? We're no where near a Harbor Freight right now but will be traveling again soon.

CompulsiveQuilter 05-20-2011 03:52 AM

NEVER MIND --- THEY'RE ON BACK ORDER! I went straight to the web site to order these blades and remembered someone else had said there was ANOTHER great item that HF carries. I hate to pay shipping on just 5 packs of blades! What was that item?

Our local HF had to triple their orders. We quilters kept buying them out.

a couple Saturday's ago, I went to 2 stores that told me that. I drove another 50 miles to my final destination and low and behold that store had plenty! Yeah!!!!

sassey 05-20-2011 04:18 AM

I made my first trip there last week got 12 blades all they had in single packs for 1.49 was looking for the 2 packs but there was none also picked up a very magnatized screw and nut bowl oh so great I am forever dropping my pin container this keeps them from going all over the floor and got some pliers for my jewelry work I couldn't believe how cheep they are

Marion T 05-20-2011 04:27 AM

I am so sad about this. We pay about $15 each for a rotary blade in Australia, and $20 for a large blade. So when I saw the first thread on Harbour Freight I tried to order the blades on line. Guess what, I can't buy on line. I contacted the store to find out why not, and had a very nice email back explaining that they cannot be shipped overseas as they are classed as weapons!

mamabear229 05-20-2011 04:38 AM

the ear plugs. used for pin protectors.

joycecil 05-20-2011 04:49 AM

My store does not carry them in store. Keep hoping I'll pop in and they will have them. I have bought them in other towns, but don't go anywhere any more.

Johanna Fritz 05-20-2011 05:46 AM

I shared this during "Show and Tell" with my guild. I made 80 new converts that night.

If you are not familiar with these, here is the link to see them:
http://www.harborfreight.com/pack-of...des-97642.html

Note, online, they are on back order. If you going to buy them local, you might want to call first. Their website also has a store locator. I didn't even know we had one in our town...and for heaven's sake, don't tell them what we are using them for!

Val in IN 05-20-2011 06:06 AM

I love Harbor Freight, not just for the rotary blades but they have lots of cool stuff. I usually find something I can't live without (haha).

donita 05-20-2011 08:08 AM

Was able to order them online at the sales price. Quick delivery and saved gas money.

IdahoSandy 05-20-2011 08:23 AM

I also went to Harbor Freight and brought 2 pkgs of these blades and did not have very good luck using my Olfa 45mm rotary cutter. It cut my material like a worn out blade and had to take the scissors to finish cutting. Think I will invest my money in a electric sharpner for rotary blades.

The other item(s) are the suction holders for your rulers. They have a double for large rulers and a single for smaller ones. I forget the exact price but they are rediculously cheaper than buying them through a quilting source.

Cool - we have one of those stores not to far from where I work - looks like I'm going to make an unexpected stop tonight :)

judyrael 05-20-2011 09:19 AM

Do you need the Fiskar cutter to fit these blades. What kind of rotary cutter are you putting the blades on?

Thanks for asking this - I am wondering too if my Olfa cutter can be used with these blades. Although I am from Canada, I am 10 minutes from the US border and there is a Harbour Freight in Bellingham (about 40 minutes from home). So, it looks like a small trip might be worthwhile.

Bmanmommy 05-20-2011 09:37 AM

They are great.

I actually have extras (hubby cleaned them out last time he went) if anyone is interested in purchasing these from me.

cargeo 05-20-2011 09:41 AM

I ordered on line and with shipping 6 blades only came to $11.00 +or- a few cents and that was to Maine.l

I just wanted to add that I had the same incident, with local HF out and not getting restock for several weeks...so I went online and got the blades at the sale price, and bought 10 packs at the same shipping cost (which is a little high, so be sure you notice that!), and still ended up with the blades costing less than $1.50 each!! What a deal!! And they work perfectly...no quality issues at all.

I order some, too, and used the first one last night and had the same experience .. I was *very* disappointed :|
I also read on one of my groups, another lady had the same experience ... I'm *not* say they're bad blades ~ just can't figure it out.

Diane819 05-20-2011 10:31 AM

I told a friend to bring her rotary cutter and we were going on a shopping trip. She had no idea what I had in mind so she just followed me. My Harbor Freight doesn't carry them - Jacksonville, FL! We were both dissappointed!

You can purchase them online that is what I did. I have yet to try them, but, I bought 10 packages
