Interested in what the glue method is
O.K., I just read the closed thread about Sharon Schambers Elmer's glue method. Sounds interesting, so what is it? Topstitch

Some people like to use Elmer's washable school glue to attach their binding, They sew the binding to the right side of the quilt and then fold the binding to the back. Instead of using pins to hold it in place for hand or machine sewing, they run a tiny line of the glue just inside the stitching line. They then fold the binding over the glue and touch the spot with a warm iron to dry/set the glue. This keeps the binding in place for their perferred method of stitching it down. The glue washes out when the quilt is washed. This is just a brief idea and the video will help if you are able to view it.

It fasinates me the things I see on this board. I guess because I have been doing this for so long, more than 40 years. I machine attach the binding to the front and pin that just enough to make sure I have enough binding. When is time to finish the back I just sit down with the quilt in my lap while watching TV etc. and hand stitch the back down rolling it over to the back as needed. If the quilt is really big like King size I might put a small table in front of my chair to hold some of the weight or drape part of it over my round stand up qulting hoop. I guess because I am a hand quilter I am comfortable enough in my skills to do any kind of hand sewing confidantly.

I use this method most all the time. I dilute the glue 3 parts glue and 1 part water. But I do make sure it is the school glue so I am sure it will wash out.

I use glue sticks instead of liquid glue....faster, easier and still washes out....and never have to worry about the tip clogging up!
