Interfacing for T-Shirt quilt
 

:rolleyes: I know I may regret this, but I promised a friend that I would make her two girls a quilt out of their old team T-Shirts. I have a general idea of how to do this, just some questions, one, what type of interfacing should I use? How heavy/stiff should the interfacing be? I was planning on just framing the logo's in the shirts and putting a border on them, does this sound like what should be done? When these finished tops get quilted, can edge to edge be done over the logo's?

Hi Normabeth - about 1-1/2yrs ago, I did 8 t-shirt quilts. I just used a lightweight fusible interfacing (from Joanns), if you go too heavy...make the quilt stiff. I have seen tshirt quilts quilted edge to edge but some people (incluing me) avoided the designs on the shirts, my thread kept breaking. Good luck and have fun, that is really nice of you to do these.

I got the interfacing from Joann's, lightweight fusible, 99 cents a yard. Makes it plenty stable and still soft.

I read in a t-shirt quilt book that LAQ is strongly recommended because of how thick and difficult it is to quilt. I sent mine (2different ones) to dmyers on this board out in California and she did a panto on both. They were awesome when done. One of them only looked so-so when pieced (awkward hockey jerseys to work with) but looked great with the LAQing done.
