I have a BOM applique quilt, Civil War Bride. I used the iron on product steam a seam, and now am trying to sew a blanket stitch around the applique, with the sewing machine using invisiable thread. It is really frustrating as it keeps breaking. I havent used it before, so I know I must be doing something wrong. Do I adjust the tension for the top thread? Also what kind of thread do I use in the bobbin? Same or can I use cotton/polyester? Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you quilting sisters & brothers.

I have only used the thread one time so i really can't tell you what would be the best. I would do a test run with fabric and all like your BOM with the bobbin thread changed to reg thread and the fill

I'd use Bottom Line a 60 thread that doesn't show rather than struggle with the invisible thread. My machine absolutely refused to sew with the invisible thread. Have used it by hand successfully.

Nylon invisible thread will stretch and break. Look for polyester invisible thread.

I use nylon invisible thread a lot. You need to loosen the upper tension because it stretches. It's easier to use regular thread in the bobbin instead of using nylon in the bobbin too. If you do use nylon invisible thread in the bobbin, it's important to wind it slowly so it doesn't stretch as you wind, use a metal bobbin (plastic ones have a tendency to bulge), and underfill the bobbin (no thread outside the edge of the metal bobbin).

I agree with RevPam. Also, the polyester thread doesn't melt if you iron over it, but the nylon does.

I have used Steam n' Seam on a number of appliqued quilts & use only YLI invisible thread. I don't use the blanket stitch, but my Viking Rose machine has a stitch that looks exactly like an applique stitch. It takes a couple stiches forward, nip to the right, couple forward, nip to the left, & so on. When I 1st got into quilting my sister sent me several brands of invisible thread. YLI is the one I had no problem with.

I use the sulky invisible thread in the top and the sulky white poly in the bottom, not a problem.

I have heard not to use invisable thread on baby quilts. That's the only thing I know about it. Sorry
