Has anyone else had fabric that changes color as you iron it?

I have this nice HOT pink fabric I am putting into a quilt for my DGD for Christmas. I noticed that when I press it it turns purple. As it cools, it goes back to its original color.

I have never seen fabric do this before. Anyone else?

Is this an indication of a problem with the fabric? Is is going to run or fade more? I haven't washed it yet. Maybe I should have but it is probably too late now. It is all cut and sewn into the quilt. Should I be worried?

There is a chemical reaction happening with the dye and the heat. I would pre-wash it to make sure it doesn't blead.

This has happened to me before with a red fabric and also an orange one. I used it anyway and I had no problems wtih it. It didn't run or fade at all.

a lot of it does that, especially red, it is not unstable and will be just fine.

Back in the days when we had to iron all of our clothes, this happened a lot! Did I just date myself? Oh well...

There is nothing wrong with the fabric, it will be fine!

Yes, I have a red I was pressing Monday night and it was changing to a darker shade and as it cooled it went back to the original color.

I have had that happen, too. Nothing to worry about.

Water will make the fabric look darker. Ever see that with your clothes as they come out of the washer?

That's how I tell the fabric is dry after I iron it.

I just bought some Orange cotton for a piece I am working on and BOY am I glad I prewashed ( I dont actually wash, I soak it in hot water for @ 10 min ) then toss it in the dryer. Let's just say the water was VERY colorful!! First piece I have had to bleed in years! It also had a extreme color change when ironing as well.. but as u said, it goes back to normal when it cools.

Been there done that. Doesn't seem to hurt anything sometimes I turn the heat down on iron and still changes some.. just takes longer to iron.
