Ironing Board Cover
What do you cover you ironing board with ? And where do you buy it ?

I use canvas, get it at Joanns

Mine is covered with a few layers of flannelette. Self made with yardage I had ... and held in place via the staple gun. Then topped with a pretty cotton print! Again, from my stash, and left removable so I can wash/replace as necessary.

You can buy the silver ironning board fabric at Joanns. I bought it and insulbright to make potholders out of.

I used two layers of good-quality white muslin to make a custom cover for the ironing board.
I also made an ironing "table top" to go on top of the ironing board, and it's covered with one layer of thin batting and a layer of heavy canvas, stapled to the back. It's just about destroyed, and I keep meaning to make another one. Next time, I will put a layer of heavy-duty foil between the batting and the plywood, and I'll make a giant "pillowcase" type cover that I can pull off and wash when it gets full of starch, markings, etc. :) |
Duck cloth or canvas. Usually canvas.

Here's a really good simple tutorial. I cover my ironing boards with home deco fabric (I serge around the edges after I cut it) and I use a medium thick batting under the cover. I use pins to anchor down my projects a lot when I iron and the batting helps hold the pins in place.

Actually there's a nice canvas-like cover over light padding which came with the ironing board. Then I have a couple of pieces of yardage that I didn't want to use in a quilt. I swap them back and forth - you know, when one's in the wash.... Anyway, the fabric is folded to give the maximum coverage then I use a combination of quilting safety pins and binder clips to secure it under the ironing board. Easy to remove when necessary and it stays in place just fine.

Cotton duck.

I just ordered and received a new cover and pad from Clothilde. I can't understand why I waited so long. It is wonderful. My old one, which I tried to make-do/replace was awful.
