Hi,
I have a Janome 3160 QDC machine and need instructions on How To: 1 . Lower the feed dog(s) and how to set my machine up for free montion quilting. I can't see to find any instructions in my manual that came with my machine. Does anyone have a 3160 machine and do you have any tips for me or where I can get instructions, etc. On how to best set up and test to do free montion quilting. The Tension settings, which Needles and Thread I should use, etc. I love video's they seem to be easy to understand but I do not know where to look or what site would have any instructions?? In checking , Janome has a video to how to stipple but nothing on how to set up the darning foot and lower the feed dogs...I would appreicate any help you can give me. Thanks So Much... |
On my Janome 4030/or 30/40 the spot is not visible. (please excuse, I readily flip numbers) You must take off the "arm section" that can hold supplies. The switch is in the rear of the machine itself. You need to peer around to find it and push to move it. Sure enough, the feed dogs go down. I cannot really do free motion quilting, but I did try.
Hope this can help with your machine. If it does not go in and ask you sales/repair person. Mine showed me. |
Look in the manual on page 2 -- #38 is the Drop feed lever. It is located on the back of the machine almost exactly below the presser foot.

Thank you so much...I must be blind.
Like They Say " Read Your Manual" ...and I thought I did but I must have been in a daze..I was looking at how to use the darning foot or something?? My other machines have a plastic throat plate that you cover the feed dogs with. And I know I did not get one with this machine....so I was at a loss.!!! I feel rather dumb. HA I appreciate that you got back to me so quickly. I should really read my manual a bit more. I have so much to learn about this new machine. too many options...which I love...but need to learn how to use them all. Thanks again and "Have a great sewing day." |

Hi,
Thanks for responding so quickley, I found the How to in the manual as per your reply. DAH and there they were...right in plane sight.. I was not looking in the right place. I was looking under darning foot. etc. My other machine that I have ...had a plastic clear plate that you put over the feed dogs, etc. and in checking I did not find one...so I was at a loss. Thanks - I appreciate your help. Have a great sewing day. |
All of the machone manuals have so much information in them it is very easy to overlook something. Have fun doing free motion quilting. I LOVE to free motion quilt. It just takes a little practice to get the feel of it.

Thanks
Yes, your are so right and I will have to practice, practice, practice I am sure. Anything new takes time to learn. I will start with something small and work my way to the bigger quilts. Have a great sewing day. |
Just bought my machine yesterday ( Janome 3160) and signed up for this site this morning. Looking forward to reading any tips at all. 35 years since I purchased a new machine. Talk about teaching an old dog new tricks!

Hi Colleen here, if you get a site where you can get instructions please forward or email to me. I also have a new 3160 and although exciting I'm still in awe of it. Maybe we can share tips, I found the feed dog switch ok but found it had to be strongly pushed to make it lower the feed.
