I've been a lurker for some time now, altho occasionally I post a reply or question. I have a new question. Yesterday I bought a used Janome Memory Craft 6600P for $800 + sales tax. Got it at a local Sew Vac City. I was so excited when I brought it home, but now I'm having a little guilt trip for spending so much (didn't plan that). Did I get a good price? It is only 2 years old, and looks brand new. I got a 6-month warranty on it, and the dealer threw in 2 pks of bobbins, 3 pks of needles, and an Olfa ergonimic cutting wheel. I really can't wait to use it. Tell me what you think, please.

Yes, you got a good deal. I bought a used 6500 for $900 and never looked back. I love the machine and it is the one I use at home for all my sewing. No problems with it at all. The machine I bought had hardly been used as she cuold not bond with it--preferred her Brother. I think I got the better deal.

I can't help with this, but you might want to post your question under Main on the home page.

Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here.
|
Hello and welcome from Ontario. Sorry I don't know anything about your new machine.
|
Welcome from Kentucky!
|
Don't feel guilty. That's a lower priced sewing machine in comparison to TOL sewing machines. Enjoy it.
|
Welcome from Iowa. I got a 6600P new this year and paid alot more than that. I think you got a good deal. If the dealer offers free lessons take them- there is alot of programing stuff you can do and its really nice to have someone show you how.
|
I paid full price for mine 5 years ago and have never regretted it. Great machine.
|
If it sews stitches that you are happy with, then it is worth the price. Before my hubby died he had bought me a Janome 6600. I have used it a lot but I prefer to piece my quilts on the Juki. I have had my dissapointments with the machine such as the paint hasn't held up well. Already shows wear of the paint on corners and there are some chips from pins or maybe scissors which are used around the machine. The button for cutting the thread had a pic. of scissors on it but it has already wore off. For the price he paid for it, I thought it should hold up better than it has.

You got a great deal! Check out prices on ebay if you still feel shaky about it. You will love your Janome!
|
what do we consider top of the line
|
Yes you did get a good price. I got mine new in March and absolutely LOVE it. Its a very well built machine. All steel ball bearings, etc. Will last forever!!! Not like some of the more expensive machines that have plastic gears and will break or wear out on you. Don't feel guilty at all enjoy your new baby!!
|
Great deal. Bought mine new 2 yrs ago, just love it and feel the full price I paid has already paid for itself in everyway! Welcome to the board.
|
I think you got a very good deal. I bought mine new last year, and paid waaaay more than you did. You will love the machine. And don't feel guilty about what you paid. She'll treat you very nice!
|
My friend paid almost $3,000.00 for a 6600. But of course, she got a free table. ha ha.
So I would say you got a fantastic deal. |
You got a steal. That machine new is around $1800.00.
Don't know about the warranty part. I thought Janome warranted their machines (yes, even used) the same. Guess you will have to check that out. Make sure you take it in to them for any problems before the 6 months is up. Use that machine like nobody's business between now and then. Use everything on it and don't be afraid to try all the feet and stitches. Six months will go by fast and you won't want to miss out. Then, if you don't like it, you will still be able to get your money back when you sell it. As far as the Janome that is chipping, button losing design paint, etc. My quilting teacher has had hers for about 6 years. She has sewn over 50 - 75 quilts on it, fabric bowls, and a gazillion other things. Still looks new. No chips, no lost button design, nadda. I have had mine for about three to four years now (I lost count), and still looks new. We both treat our machines like babies, are not rough on them, do not wear lotions or eat greasy, sticky foods around them. I am wondering if you wear a lotion that is robbing the button of its design. Anyway, should have held up much better than what you describe. |
The dealer told me that even the new machines only have a 12 month warranty, so I am pleased they gave me 6 months. Normally, on their used machines, they only give 3 months, but since this is more high-end they give 6 months. And yes, I will get lessons whenever I can find the time to go. (I live about 45 miles away). Thanks for everyone's input. Think I will go play!!

I bought it new two years ago. I love my machine ,you got a very good deal for that price! I would love to find a great deal on a quilting machine
|
I bought my Janome 6600P five years ago for $1699 ON SALE, so I'd say you got an excellent deal! You'll LOVE it - congrats!

I got mine new 2 months ago and paid $1600. It is worth every penny!!!

I think you got a really good deal and welcome to the Janome 6600P club. :D
Happy sewing! |
I have a 6500 and a 6600 and love them both, but the 6600 is so necessary when I'm sewing on binding. It has the built in dual feed capability. You got a good deal.
Enjoy the machine. |
It was a known problem that the paint was not holding up on some Janomes. It sure wasn't because we were abusing them after paying that much money. I am truly happy that you aren't having any problems with yours but that isn't to say that others have not had their share. I use the machine like I have used machines in the past 50 years, caring for them but still using them as that is why I have sewing machines. If a lotion is causing the scissors to fade away then I wonder why it hasn't happened with my other machines.......oh well, just telling of my experience for the benefit of the poster.

Welcome from Arizona. I've bben pricing machines and the Janome 6600 was one of them and I would have jumped at the price compared with what I've seen online. Enjoy your new baby from what I've read you'll grow old together.

It is what I have and if I could find another for that good of a price, I would snatch it up, just to have a spare. Congratulations on your find. |

HI FROM MICHIGAN & FLORIDA,
I paid 900.00 for mine about three years ago so you have a great machine and paid fair. Also have two Janome Jems that I travel with and I love them. |
My husband bought me my 6600 3 years ago when he took his retirement. I have sewn for 47 years no and this baby is by far the best machine I have ever had. He laughs at me because I'll be sewing away and suddenly say " I love this baby". He paid $1600. for it and he later went out and bought me the table for it. It really made a big difference to me sewing as I am short and the machine sits into the base of the table and is then the correct height for me. There are sew many features that you will love. The scissors, the walking foot. I got the acufeed in the ditch foot and have asked for the acufeed 1/4" foot for xmas.

One thing I learned recently - after having had my machine for five years - is that you don't have to pull the bobbin thread to the top after putting a new bobbin in. Just drop the new bobbin in and start sewing; the machine will pull the thread up automatically. I thought it was something I missed in the book, but the book tells you how to pull it up and doesn't mention that the machine will do it automatically :)
