I'm curious to find out how many of you have used Jelly Rolls or Honey Buns with any of your projects, and which one you like better? I've used some Jelly Rolls in a couple of my quilts and have loved them, but I haven't really tried using my Honey Buns yet. Any ideas?

I love jelly rolls and honey buns. Love the smell of them baking.
Ohhh...sorry, was hungry!
I have some jelly rolls, but haven't used them as of yet.

I have used jelly rolls and like them, but I'm addicted to buying the charm squares... my favorite

Haven't used my Charms yet, but am working on my first Jelly Roll braided lap top now. I'm loving it!

I haven't bought either yet, but am seriously looking at them for a log cabin idea in the future

All I've used so far is just fabric by the yard. Might get around to using jelly rolls someday.

I have a Jelly Roll which sits on my shelf where I sew. I feel a little silly saying this but it's taken me so long to find this particular collection I am not wanting to use it. What am I like :D
You see it looks so pretty sitting there, however I think it needs a friend to snuggle up to so I may have to buy another to keep it company.

So to answer your question yes I do have JR but no HB - but to date it's unused.
I also have afew charm packs - they too are unused LOL.
Yes you've guessed I'm a hoarder

I prefer cutting my own fabric as well as picking out my colors.

They look like fun. But a little to $ for me right now.

Hmmm, had to Google 'Honey Bun' to find out what it was, as I hadn't heard the term before. In answer to your question, I like the idea of both, but don't think I would be able to bring myself to use them. I think they would end up as decorative items, just like Quilter1962.

I have never used either but have been eyeballing both. Just waiting to save the $$ for some.

I just buy yardage, to much of a price raise to have it in strips or squares. If I bought them; Two rolls would take care of my monthly budget....If I had a lot of money...yes i would buy lots of goodies

I just checked honey buns wow that is pricey

I made a quilt last year with a jelly roll and charm squares. The pattern is titled Strips n Bits. I loved the quality of the fabrics. It was so easy to work with them. The only problem was sorting lights and darks as the roll and charm pack has the entire collection. I needed more definition between the dark and light, but it is still a pretty quilt.

Now for a dumb question--what are honey buns?

Jim's Gem 06-29-2009 06:24 PM

I think the same as a Jelly roll 2 1/2" x 44" strips, though there is also a 1 1/2" precut strip out there as well. The Jelly rolls typically come with 35 or so strips from a line of fabrics that go together.

I've only used Jelly rolls... using them now to make some log cabin blocks.. also have used them to do a braid and also binding when I have leftovers...

lisainmo 07-02-2010 09:54 AM

ok I pieced that braid..but I don't understand exactly how to cut it. Can you help me with an easy way to make sure I get it even. I pieced that in no time with Christmas fabric and it turned out great..fast and easy..any help would be appreciated.
