jelly roll question...
 

I have never used a jelly roll before, but I have "unrolled one" and am going to play with it. This one has 50 strips, four different fabrics.

I was told by a fellow quilter than most jelly rolls had strips that were all different fabrics. It has made me question if I should try the pattern I was thinking...which is from Missouri Star Quilt Co. I watched a video called Jelly Roll & 3 Dudes, and it looked like fun. (I tried to find the link to put here, but I just must have lost it. I'll have to research that again.)

So, my question is...what pattern should I use if my jelly roll only has four different fabrics? Any suggestions....or does anyone know the pattern I am talking about and do you think it would look okay with just four fabrics?

Yes, this is it! Would my fabrics look good with this pattern? I have absolutely no ability to visualize what a quilt would look like. I will probably make one block and then try to decide.

Though I am open to other ideas!

I think you could make 4 fabrics work in this quite nicely. One idea would be to sew each set together in a different order so the colors would be broke up more. Very pretty colors. Keep us posted on what you decide.

Maybe you could try drawing the blocks to see how it will turn out with 4 prints. I am like you. Sometimes I just can't visualize how something is going to look. Thank heaven for our quiltingboard friends to help us out.

I would probably do a split rail fence.

Very pretty fabrics and great pattern! Any idea what fabric line they are from? Thanks for the tutorial reminder. I bought 2 different jelly rolls from JoAnns a few months ago to try this pattern. Each contained 20 strips with 2 strips of 10 different fabrics. Jelly rolls used to all be 40 different strips, but now can be any number of strips and contain many duplicate fabrics, esp when made by individual shops. When shopping you need to look them over and read any label carefully to see what's enclosed. Some jelly rolls are priced a dollar or more a strip! You could mix in some strips of coordinating colors- yellows, blues, etc. Or maybe do a 4 rail fence? Please let us know what you decide, and how it turns out.

I had the same thought that quilting candy did. You can easily strip piece a rail fence and it would look great with those fabrics.

Monroe, I bought this jelly roll at Tuesday Morning about a year ago. It was $15., but I have no idea if that is a good price or not. I had never looked at jelly rolls before and haven't since. I am looking at the fabric string that held it together, and it says Stripz. The tag says Quick Cuts Stripz...color-coordinate fabric pack. On the back of the tag it says style#3602 Peaceful Planet, made in Pakistan. It is cotton and has 3.5 yards of strips. I have no idea if it is still available anywhere.
