How many fabrics are usually in these? What width?

Sadiemae 10-05-2010 10:33 AM

2 1/2" wide for Jelly rolls
1 1/2" wide for Honey Buns
There are usually 42 strips, but some duplictes depending on the number of fabrics in the fabric line.

What is the advntage to using jelly rolls and would you only be using them for a quilts that is nothing but strips. I don't understnad the concept at all.

Sadiemae 10-05-2010 10:54 AM

There are a lot of patterns that use jelly rolls. Most fabric lines that have jelly rolls also have charm packs, layer cakes and fat quarters, which you can use with the jelly rolls. It just depends what you want to make. The advantage is not having to cut your own strips.

Scissor Queen 10-05-2010 10:57 AM

The advantages are they're already cut and you get one strip from every fabric in the line.

I have 2 1/2 " strips 4" blocks and 2" blocks.

Go to this web and look at the tutorials and you'll see some easy quilts to make with jelly rolls, honey buns, turnovers, and charm packs: http://tutorials.missouriquiltco.com/

There are some very affordable booklets on Jelly Roll patterns that are really quick and easy. It sure does cut out the time on cutting and often saves money, since you are not having to buy several fabrics. Can be very quick and easy for log cabine quilts.

I have a book by Pam and Nicky Lintott that uses nothing but jelly rolls. And you will get a ton of pattern ideas at http://www.modabakeshop.com/. And lots of other ideas for layer cakes, honey buns and turnovers.

galvestonangel 10-05-2010 07:06 PM

I love the pre cuts, even tho they may cost more per yard, they save money because you have no waste. There are so many ideas out there on making pre cut quilts.

I love pre cuts. No waste, lots of variety. I get a lot for my money. I really prefer them to buying FQ.
