Jenny Doan's new magazine Quilting Quickly.
Am I the only one who didn't know that Fon's and Porter have a magazine by Jennie Doan called Quilting Quickly and it came out January 1, 2013? I just now found out. I am so excited. I ordered the digital and the real magazine. I think it said it is 4 times a year. Is that right? She is my favorite quilting person. I just love her personality and her methods and how she says "Isn't this just the cutest ..." to everything she's working on. I call the shop all the time because I order from Missouri Star Quilt Co. and always hope that she will accidentally answer the call. No luck yet. Dang! I think I will save up and make a trip to her store (make sure she will be there) just to see her in person. I feel like she is a good friend and someone I can trust. Anyone else love her this much? Anyone else not know about her magazine, which is going to be awesome??!!??
I, too, love her that much and her often used comment, "Isn't this just the cutest ..." and I also did not know about the new magazine. It's only 5:15 am here and the stores aren't open yet!!!! so I will order it online and then I can relax knowing I have a copy heading my way.
I love Jenny too, I think we need to form a JENNY, Isn't this just the cutest, fan club!!
I found this link
http://www.fonsandporter.com/issues/...y_Spring_2013# I will be subscribing to this one, I love her videos. Th Thanks for letting me know, i had not heard of this new magazine. Add on: I tried to subscribe, it seems that I could only order this issue either in print or digital. I will look at Joann's when I am there today before I order on line. |
I just bought this magazine after someone else on the QB mentioned it the other day. I love it, it shows directions for some of the most popular quilts she has done videos for on YouTube. I can look at the videos, as I often do, and then follow with the directions from the mag. Great idea. I love her to and would love to go to their store and meet her.
I didn't know about the magazine either, so I'll look for it. Along with "isn't this just the cutest" I also like "this is so adorable" - those phrases encourage me to make a quilt just like the one she's working on.
I wonder if I can use a Joann's coupon and get a copy? I like buying a single copy of a magazine before subscribing that way I will know if I like it and no pressure. I know there are specials where you can get the first one free then decide but sometimes it's difficult to cancel.
Not knowing much about Jenny I had to google her. Here is something that came up and I thought you would like to check it out
http://www.craftsy.com/class/Quiltin...hniques-Tips/9 Now back to my search :) |
I ordered one last week. I should be here soon. I really like Jenny's teaching style. I think it is just a special issue featuring Jenny. The other Quilting Quickly issues will have other designers. That is how I understood the description of the magazine.

You can use a Joanns coupon unless they already have their magazines on sale at 10% off. That is what I saw at my local Joanns over the weekend. I wait until I can use a 40 -50% off coupon instead.

Barnes & Noble has 40% coupons often, so I print those out and spend a happy hour or two browsing their magazines before deciding which one to buy. They have a bigger selection than Joann's does anyway. |
At the JoAnn's closest to me, you can use a coupon if you take the % off the regular price and not the sale price. If the coupon is 40% off and the item is on sale for 10% off then I use the 40% off coupon taken off the regular price. Hobby Lobby does this so JoAnn's started doing it here too. All Joann's should do the same thing. Some managers aren't afraid to do what they can to keep customers and keep profit up, some say Oh I'm not allowed to do that.

YMMV, etc. |
I bought one at Joann's, could not use a coupon as they had discounted it 10%. The magazine is great, has an interesting story about how MSQC got started.

It's difficult for me to get out and Kroger may not have it anyway so I just bought and downloaded the digital edition from F&P. I really like these digital mags! I have a sub to Quilter's World and love it. You can print out pages you want, patterns etc. and sometimes I load it on my laptop to sit and view it in the living room! I just looked through the pdf and there's a great article about MQC and the family.

Now i know who you mean. i like her because she's not a size Zero!
Well, Joann's did not have it. Will check out Barnes and Noble and see if they have it. Hmm, I have a nook, so may see if I can buy just a single digital edition?
I purchased this magazine today at my local grocery store. I bought one for me and one for my daughter that has decided quilting is her thing!!!!
I bought the magazine yesterday at JoAnn and I love it. Interestingly enough, I was entertaining myself while I ironed yesterday by watching quilting tutorials and came across at least a couple of tutorials on the projects in this magazine. Made the quilts just come alive and makes the construction look so simple. Just love the big star quilt.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4 since I finished my laundry yesterday and it is raining here, I plan to sew ALL day. :). Hope everyone has a great day! |
Thanks for the "heads up". I didn't know about the new mag - just ordered it!
I have met Jenny Doan and she is very very nice.....and tall. Didn't expect her to be as tall as she is. She wore a bright red wig when we all gathered to go on a bus tour last year at her shop. I did not know about her magazine but put the words "Quilting Quickly" in Google and after scrolling down to those exact words, I was able to order it for $12.98 total. I only ordered one magazine, I didn't see a subscription anywhere, guess I need to check it out.
Will look for this magazine when I am out, have not been picking up many magazines lately, I go through times when I pick up a few, then go several months before they catch my attention. Now will find this one! Thanks for sharing this bit of news.
I just ordered her magazine. I love Jenny's saying and her style. I have made several quilts from her videos and her pillowcases. I'm always interested in learning quick and easier quilt making.
At $10 for a single magazine I will pass and watch her videos on the internet for free!
Me to!! For $10.00 I can get a yard of nice fabric!!! Money is tight right now. heck it is always tight it seems
Worse not that I have retired. I miss my "mad money" but love retirement |
I subscribed right after Christmas. can't wait to see
I am also a Jenny fan but did not know about the new magazine. I will be going out today so I will definitely look for it.
Usually JoAnn discounts their magazines 10% jusy to keep you from using your coupons. I have subscribed to the Craftsy courses by Jenny also and they are really good. They have sales on them all the time. www.craftsy.com. |
I took a picture of the cover of the magazine and my hubby found it at the grocery store yesterday. The projects look great. My only concern is that Jenny maintain HER style and HER business. Many of the projects direct you to Fons & Porter sites for the tutorial. I'd much rather go to Jenny's site. Had I been able to peruse the magazine, I would not have bought it. Nothing against Jenny, but I hope to not see her merged with Fons. In any way. Jenny brings a freshness to the quilting world. IMHO
Careful or you'll start to sound like a stalker! LOL I love her, too. I think I knew about the magazine but promptly forgot about it which is not uncommon these days as I have more and more senior moments all the time.

Whatever I want is always on sale, and they won't let you use the coupon. I think I'm ready to switch to Hancock's. |
It cracks me up when she says, "this is the most adorable thing." Whatever she is talking about usually is adorable. I love her videos. Even I can understand what she's talking about!
I am also a member of the Jenny Fan Club! She is so personable and her directions are clear and concise!
saw it at Joannes the other day
I love watching her videos - she is so like the "friend" next door - and when she messes something up - it is Oh, well - or she will make a slight joke about it and keep right on going. Her style is so easy to understand and so natural and refreshing. Fons & Porter show sometimes drives me nuts when she stops to put on her gloves to do a simple cut with the rotary cutter. Get real! Anyway I am a great fan of Jenny (just the way she is). :-)

There are 17 pattern in the magazine. That's about .58 a pattern. I think that's a great bargain for $10.
I love Jenny too. So natural. So many things are 'darling' and everything is 'so fun'. Life as it should be :-)
I wonder if Jenny knows that she is such a 'rock star' and has this following of groupies. Is she the new Elvis for us old gals?!
