JoAnn's was EMPTY this morning!

I have to wonder if it has to do with the economy.....I have NEVER been to JoAnn's on a day when they had an active 60% coupon and not had to stand in line for a ridiculous amount of time. Must admit, it was wonderful to go in and check out within 10 minutes!

cinnya 11-19-2011 08:11 AM

I think they are saving their pennies for the black friday sale.:)

momto5 11-19-2011 08:11 AM

I don't think I've EVER seen that here in ours!

EmbQuilt 11-19-2011 08:12 AM

I didn't get a 60% off coupon wahhhh ... They just open a new super sized joanns and closed the smaller one by my house and it has been a mad house in there. I miss my small one. Would have preffered driving long distances to get to the big one so as to not deal with the crowds.

That's what I was thinking too. It's probably going to be super crowded on Friday.

Pat

majormom 11-19-2011 09:06 AM

I went into Joanns yesterday for the first time in a very long time.....and to my extreme surprise the whole store had been done over! Everything was in a different place, but I didn't care, I'd find it, and it would be easy, the aisles were wider and not cluttered with all kinds of stuff as it had always been before, the displays were very nice and easy to see what you wanted, and at the cutting table you pulled a number and when they came to your number, they announced it over an intercom and your number showed all lit up on a box hanging from the ceiling. NO more lines of women jockeying for a better place in line. No line at all!...when you hear your number you go to the cutting table with your fabric to be cut! WONDERFUL. All the salespersons had been replaced...hooray... and everyone was especially helpful and pleasant.....WOW. What a pleasant surprise. I just might start going back to Joanns for things!

If you check Joanns website you can print the coupons from there. That's how I got my 60% off and also the 20% off total purchase.

lynnie 11-19-2011 09:09 AM

where did you get a 60% off, i'd kill for one !!!!! (lol)

momto4 11-19-2011 09:34 AM

60% off reg priced items? I saw (online) the Christmas fabric was bumped from 50% to 60% off today. DH and I are going to stop in tonight and I sure hope the lines are not huge for me! :)

luvstoquilt 11-19-2011 09:45 AM

Great because I am on my way there now!

IAmCatOwned 11-19-2011 09:52 AM

Wow. It's empty here only because of the snow that is coming in a couple of hours. I suppose they could be waiting for black friday. This will be my 3rd year of no Black Friday shopping. I sometimes miss it, but but the fun of it disappeared when it became more cutthroat. We few very early shoppers always got stuff like hot cider or coffee. Never happens now.

Scraps 11-19-2011 09:56 AM

Waiting for Black Friday and most are probably at the grocery stores getting their turkeys! :-)

momto4 11-19-2011 10:00 AM

We are waiting for ours too though we are only supposed to get a few inches...we will see. :) (im in WI btw)

I was out yesterday near a Joann's that I normally don't visit (farther than the usual Joann's). When I pulled into the parking lot, I found out that it was no longer there...just an empty store. It's in an area of several store closings so I don't know if it was a bad location, bad economy or a bad sign for Joann's. I hope to find out that they just moved to a better location.

nancylee 11-19-2011 10:31 AM

I went to my LQS this morning, they had a surprise 30 % off everything!! I was so excited, I love the fabrics so much more than Joann's, although I do go there when I need backing and batting, etc.!

I was at JoAnn's today about 10:30, they were busy but they had alot of salespersons working so the checkout line went fast. I got a 60 percent coupon in an email and use that.

annthreecats 11-19-2011 04:09 PM

I went to JoAnn's today, it wasn't that crowded but I had to wait at the cutting counter. That was okay, though, because I got some really good prices on the fleece. All their fleece was 40% off and according to my receipt, I saved more than I spent.

I guess it didn't stop a lot of the folks as there were 114 car crashes during that 1/2 day snowfall :)

Rose Marie 11-20-2011 06:42 AM

Both my Joanns are busy so I go early in the morning during the week. Weekends are impossible.
Black Friday the lines are all the way around the back and sides of the store so it is not worth it to stand in line for hours.

I agree with that sentiment! I can't imagine wanting anything badly enough to stand in line for hours!

Xtgirl 11-20-2011 04:22 PM

I got batting and10 yards of wide back muslin..those 60% plus merry moolah plus 10% for guild is awesome!

The checkout lady at Wal-Mart today said, "It is so QUIET today!" I think the same thing as others, that people are waiting until Friday. It's going to be madness!

jhoward 11-20-2011 06:01 PM

I was at a new store in Elk River(MN), yesterday, the lines were long, extremely long. The workers were helpful and friendly. I used every coupon they allowed. : ) I love a sale.

traumaRN 11-20-2011 06:07 PM

Unfortunately I was working a 12 hr shift. : (

olebat 11-21-2011 04:41 AM

The fist full of coupons was burning a hole in my hand, but I resisted. We made a trip out to get toner, could just have well ordered on-line, because the store was out too. Spent my quarterly budget at quilt shows and LQS sales last month. On a diet until the first of the year. (:()

My store is now a superstore too. Trouble is here hardly anyone ever takes a number, so it becomes confusing for those that have been waiting. Personally, the quality of the fabric has gone down, so I rarely shop there for fabric. And I sure don't need any new rulers or pins. So I will just continue my internet shopping, thank you.

Wintersewer 11-21-2011 04:46 AM

I went to that same new Joann in Marketplace Fair last Friday and was VERY disappointed in the amount of quilting fabric it had. I thought it had tons of clothes and craft fabric but was scant on cotton. What did you think of it?

I went to Joann's yesterday and did I hit the jackpot! I purchased $115. worth of merchandise and after all the coupons I gave them I ended up paying only $49. I couldn't believe it myself.

cpfrog 11-21-2011 05:36 AM

Didn't have a 60% coupon and don't care... the way they "work" the system and us, I have lost interest in JoAnn's. Our local one has made mistakes (which luckily I caught before walking out the door), told me I couldn't use one of my coupons (even tho' it was a different "scan code") and then wouldn't let me use my VIP card (10% off all). I sure don't feel like a VIP anymore... of course that changes with whomever is on the register... I might try some other JoAnns, but the one nearest to Amherst Ohio is for the birds.

dmyers 11-21-2011 05:37 AM

Calm before the storm!

Steady Stiching 11-21-2011 06:24 AM

I was in Joann's yesterday and much to my suprise I discoverd that my small can of KK2000 temp adhesive had jumped from 11.99 to 14.99 since I bought it last (about three or four months).
I'll be searching for a new source and make sure I don't run out when I need it. Thank goodness I had a rare 60% off coupon...really wish we didn't have to play the coupon game.

thepolyparrot 11-21-2011 07:34 AM

Our Joann is often "empty" right before and right after a huge sale. I won't be there for Black Friday on a bet. I did that sale once a few years ago and it was insane - never again, I don't care if they're giving stuff away.

I love going in on Tuesdays after a big sale. Hardly any waits for fabric cutting or checkout, no shopping carts in the aisles to navigate around, no grouchy people yelling at poor sales clerks. Peace and quiet, yes! :)

fixfido 11-21-2011 09:40 AM

Couldn't agree with you more!! I once waited for over an hour to have fabric cut & then saw the line for the registers was completely to the back of the store. I told an associate that my dogs were in the car and unless I could check out more quickly than that, I would have to leave. She said "Oh, the line is moving really fast!" Yep, had to leave my stuff. I felt bad, but I think a 2-hr. wait to get what you want is too much under any circumstances!

Perhaps the economy or perhaps folks are spending money traveling for Thanksgiving or for that big dinner on Thursday is making it less crowded at Joanns this week.

scrapykate 11-21-2011 10:55 AM

oh, going to have to get that 60%, need backing fabric for 3 quilts. don't think I can handle black Friday though.

jarenie 11-21-2011 10:57 AM

I have seen an empty store only once. It was scarry.

jamsbuying 11-21-2011 10:59 AM

Shopping for fabric yesterday in Hancock/JoAnns (not a LQS) and noticed fabric prices still going higher and higher, even for fabric that wasn't great quality. People were looking mostly at sale stuff.

jayelee 11-21-2011 11:03 AM

I have never gotten a 60% off I would love it Thats when I would buy my bolts of muslin and rolls of quilt batting

CAS49OR 11-21-2011 02:37 PM

JoAnn's has seemed empty to me until I get to the cutting counter or the checkout, lol! You can get coupons in your newspaper, by subscribing to their email or text alerts. I get great coupons! The thing is, they are for "reg priced" merchandise, so usually worthless. The ones I get in the mail are usually for a sale in two weeks, so I get all excited to go get a good deal and it isn't valid yet. I find that out when I dig them out at the check-out.

It is worthwhile to subscribe though, because lately they have been sending coupons worth 25% off purchase whether it is on sale or not.
