Juki 2010Q feed dogs won't go down
 

Hi everyone! I've been FMQing on my Juki, sometimes leaving the feed dogs up with a stitch length of 0, and other times lowering the feed dogs. Yesterday I discovered that the feed dogs will no longer drop. The lever to drop them won't budge.

Anyone else have have this problem? Thanks for the help.

This is just a thought, and I don't have a Juki, but have you taken off the throat plate and cleaned that area really well?

I don't have a Juki but if it's a lever, you may need to add a drop of sewing machine oil to the joint. Joints can freeze up from accumulated gunk, but oil can soften it up. You usually have to wait a day for the oil to penetrate, and it may take more than one application.

If there is a spring involved with the lever, it could be that the spring has worn out and needs to be replaced. However, if the lever is frozen in place, I would think the problem is more likely to be lubrication.

ON my machine, you must start to sew again for them to move in place again. just in case you hadn't tried that yet.

Cleaning under the feed dogs is a good idea.

If you take the bottom off of the machine, you can see a bullet shaped metal part. That's what gets gummed up, and doesn't let your feed dogs drop. If that's the culprit, you can try to remove the gummy stuff and re-oil.

I was so glad to see the answer to this question! My feed dogs stopped going up and down a couple of months ago. I've been taking the throat plate off and lifting the feed dogs with a little screwdriver!

Clean all areas with machine switched off. Now try again.

I agree with most of the comments. You do need to get those pesky dust bunnies out from under the sole plate. Do you need to take it in for servicing occasionally?? Maybe it is time to get her in for service.

so pleased to see this post, as I've had this problem for a while now with my Brother. Don't know how to take the covers off though, so have been putting it off till she goes for service. Haven't been game to unscrew the bottom in case it's connected elsewhere. If anyone knows of a youtube video on how to 'uncover' these machines, please pm me the link.

On occasion the feed dogs won't drop on my Baby Lock. I have found that if I slowly turn the wheel that raises & lowers the needle while pushing on the lever that lowers the feed dogs they will go down. It's worth a try on your machine.
