Just about made it thru the month....

If I can make it thru Tuesday, I will have stayed on my fabric budget. This is worse than staying on a food diet. Wondering how everyone is doing? Hoping this will get easier :)

scrappy2 01-27-2012 08:19 PM

I know what you are saying deedum. I've been on a fabric diet 30 days and I can't stand it any longer. Going shopping in the morning and my DH is going too. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad. lol I think for the next 30 days I will go on a food diet instead it will be much easier.

Up North 01-27-2012 08:20 PM

Since I have no place to purchase fabric within 50 miles and the weather had been iffy I have no problems!

LOL, if only :)

MaryLane 01-27-2012 08:29 PM

I would have been "okay" if I hadn't been asked to make a quilt for a grandfather to give to his new granddaughter. This involved a trip to a sort of LQS that has a fantastic selection of flannel. I couldn't JUST buy that after driving 40 miles one way.

I am hoping that with finishing up some UFOs and piecing some backs I will come out "down" for the month. I still have 4 days of sewing to get there!

Aubrey'sQuiltingCreations 01-27-2012 08:36 PM

I have been able to stay on track as the only stuff I buy is what I am purchasing to use on a customers quilt. I have had some medical issues this past year and I have nothing extra to spend on fabric. I still get my fix its just buying for others.

gramajo 01-28-2012 04:12 AM

I've stayed on my fabric diet this month  I've finished one UFO and am partway through a second one. Yeah for me!

jad1044 01-28-2012 05:04 AM

I have the same problem of wanting to buy fabric - and then I take a look at what I have and all the intened fabrics for quilts I have planned and I think NO NO NO!!!But the other day I didmake a trip to a Walmart for lack of having place to get the fabric transfers for putting pictures onto them to insert into quilt blocks... It satisfied my need, and since I could think of no fabric I really needed, did not look at their fabric selections other than walking through and nothing struck my eye as something I could not live without - Maybe, slowly I'm weaning myself off this fabric buying binging... For some time it was nothing to have UPS and FEDEX stopping two to three times a week too - not to mention our regular mail lady... I"m up to my ears in pretty fabric - my sort of resolution for this year- "get the quilts made I have on my list - use up some of this intended fabric for those quilts - and then begin again - if I feel teh need" - and I doubt I will. I have UFO's galore too - so no need to do anything but keep plugging along on the things I have started already whether it be something I bought that was not finished, or whether it is something I personally made and did not get back at it - it's time to finish all the UFO's too - I think I have my 2012 planned out for me! So, in a way, I've created a fabric diet.... I wish you all luck in your diets as well! It's tough - I know!!!

ragqueen03 01-28-2012 05:09 AM

I have been doing good by not buying from a store - but this board has had some members selling some great fabric -so i did purchase a couple of pieces from one and paid for shipping for a pif on another! i guess i am thinking if i purchase it on line it doesn't count - lol!

Joset 01-28-2012 05:39 AM

i have been on the diet too. and i have 2 gifts
certificates for our local quilt shop which is 3 miles away.
but they are having a super ball sale so cant wait
to get in there. i think i do better on a food diet.lol

luvstoquilt 01-28-2012 06:08 AM

I knew better than to sign up to using just stash! However, I am not buying like I was. I have so much and I am determined to finish my projects I have started and the ones I have planned before I really go out and go crazy again. I have only purchased what I needed to finish a baby quilt for my friends new soon to be grandson and a small piece of fabric for the cats on "Nighttime Cats" I am doing for my granddaughter. I do know about a sale that is coming sometime soon ... fabric from a closed fabric store and I will be buying there. I am waiting for the e-mail to let me know the sale is on!

I was just looking over my stash and , whew, do I have a lot. I am going to try and NOT buy any fabric for this whole year. Do you think I can make it. I just ordered the new Singer 160th anniversary machine so that is where my fabric money has gone. I may have to fudge on that a little as I am going to make approx twin size quilts for my 5 grandchildren for Christmas next year and I may need to add to fabric I already have but other than that, I am pretty committed to sticking to this resolution.

Fell off the wagon yesterday BIG time. BUT it really wasn't my fault. My DD made me do it. It's all her fault I was so weak.

pacquilter 01-28-2012 07:58 AM

I've been doing good on my diet, too, but only by staying out of the local LQS's. I cannot be trusted!

kathdavis 01-28-2012 07:59 AM

Didn't last! I'm sitting here looking at my big bag from JoAnn's. Ooops!

gramarraine 01-28-2012 08:13 AM

I have done pretty good. I bought backing I needed for 2 quilts that were UFO's and I finished 1 table topper from a kit I had. I haven't bought just because I liked it.l

MOBRIDGE MOM 01-28-2012 09:43 AM

I'm doing ok haven't strayed off the straight and narrow...but why do I see so many more cute fabrics I would like to have than before this fabric diet.

Our closest Walmart is 50 miles and since Unemployment ran out I can not use the credit cards so I will not be buying I guess!

I also just found out that I'm going to be Grandma for the 2nd time in 13 years...so this really is a trial!

Well I was doing real good, till my quilting buddies called and said "Road Trip" Thats all it took. We left early this morning, before daylight, stopped and had breakfast, then headed for Indy. We went to Quilts Plus, "side note here" if you spend $150.00 you get this really nice large canvas bag. Well we all 4 left with one. After we left there we went to The Back Door. We had a wonderful time. We are all meeting next Sat. for a day of sewing and friendship. No Regrets.

rjwilder 01-28-2012 04:29 PM

Well, I blew my fabric diet and my food diet. I've had a cold for over a month now so my eating habits tend to want sweet things, carbs, not veggies or fruit. The fabric diet, well, I "neeeded" some fabric for valentine projects so I bought a little bit of red and some pinks. The printed stuff goes on sale at 50% off tomorrow at JoAnn's, how can I pass that up?

sewbeadit 01-28-2012 06:40 PM

Well I haven't gone anywhere to buy fabric either, but my computer is just too easy to use! Didn't make it more than a week.lol

My DH said "don't you have some gift certificates to use up at some fabric stores"? In other words, he was ready to get out of the house! So I did! I spent no more than my gift cards. Still within boundaries. The material and thread I bought is for the backing to a wedding quilt so that is reasonable I am thinking.

deedum 01-28-2012 06:54 PM

What fun!

What fun! Glad there are no regrets, we don't ever want that. This is our enjoyment!

Gramie bj 01-28-2012 07:52 PM

I have been doing really good so far have only needed to pick up 2 yards of pellon and some thread. I have finished 3 UFO's working on #4 a bargello. All those seams to line up! What was I thinking? OH YA I wasn't! LOL My true challenge will come when I go to the Sew Expo in Puyallup on March 1st. hopefully I will be able to stay away from the fabric but I will be getting longarm thread, needles, bobbins, and a new hopping foot. It is a 6 hr trip to my nearest dealer so I try to get enough to last a year, maybe some patterns. I want to have the bargello top finished by then at least, would like it better if I could have the quilting done by then too. Time will tell.

annesthreads 01-29-2012 01:37 AM

I decided ages ago no more stash-building, only buy planned purchases of fabric, use stash fabrics as much as possible. THEN I discovered a shop I posted about last week, that sells offcuts of quilting fabric by weight at a fraction of their usual price. Luckily it's in another city, but unfortunately I've needed to go there twice recently. Diet became binge! I told myself that given my limited budget and the terrible cost of fabric, it was only sensible to stock up while I could. Yeah, right!

DebbieJJ 01-29-2012 03:25 AM

I, too, have a diet of binging! I was being really good until this past Tuesday when I needed some more white fabric. I made a "quick" trip to Hancock's (we don't have any local quilt shops left), and an hour later, walked out with a HUGE bag of several fabrics -- all on sale, plus the needed white. Then I bought some pastels from members on the qb, and a box of greens from another qb'er. Oh well, maybe I'll get on my diet some other time!

Glad I'm not the only yoyo dieter!

I just wish it was only about fabrics! I need to lose weight, but don't have the will power. If only "wishing" could make it so..........

vickig626 01-29-2012 06:52 AM

I was doing pretty good until I went to a link on Yardsellr.com. I was gifted with something they call PhotonBucks. I ran across some pretty purple fabric that was $9.50 a yard. With the PhotonBucks, it ended up costing $1.90 including shipping.

Just couldn't resist such a deal !!!

Barbpr 01-29-2012 07:10 AM

I would have made it except a friend phoned and asked if I wanted anything at one of the online fabric sites as she needed $15 more for free shipping. Of course, I had to help my friend out!!

quiltlin 01-29-2012 07:12 AM

When I'm trying not to buy I just don't go to the fabric stores.....it is REALLY hard not to buy when you see something you like!

IdahoSandy 01-29-2012 10:53 AM

I really need to go on a fabric diet. This is worse than a food diet. Just this morning I caved in and brought 2 fat quarters and a half yard of a tone on tone blue, which is the next to last fabric needed to start another quilt. The fat quarters were for tree trunks for another bear quilt. At least this is my justification for buying these two fabrics. Right now I have 8 quilts lined up in different stages of fabric completion before I can make these quilts. Quilting and fabrics are my biggest addiction, then food. I know I am not alone here.

I backslid and bought $30 this week. I didn't mean to do it...just loved the fabric and seemed too good a deal to pass up since it was on sale. Wallowing in guilt.

Doreen 01-29-2012 11:07 AM

I was good during the month of May, 2011. No purchases of fabric but OMG June made up for it!

caspharm 01-29-2012 11:29 AM

That's what I need to do, though my last purchase was for printable fabric sheets from EQ.

Ruby the Quilter 01-29-2012 12:12 PM

I have been good! Only bought fabric for a baby quilt for my nephew's new baby didn't have any baby fabric.

nhweaver 01-29-2012 12:23 PM

I have stayed away from my LQS, did real good there, but brought my Husky into Joann's (dealer has space there) and there was a clearance area, bought only $15 worth for quilt backs. My machine is ready for pick up, and I think I will have my DD pick it up for me. I spent another $5 on a huge box from my Goodwill. I am also keeping a list of what I spend on quilting for 2012.

quiltmau 01-29-2012 01:43 PM

I just finished sorting and shelving my fabric-out of tubs and in my line of site. Bad move-now not only do I know what I have so does DH. I don't NEED any more fabric-but --but--I WANT IT!!
Need to finish up some of my current projects-mostly kids quilts. I actually have 11 tops that need quilting. So back at it.
