Just found out about French Braid quilts

I was in a little town and picked up a book about French Braids. Well, I'm making one now. I have never heard of them before. They are gorgeous. Are they new? Have they been around a long time? I just love them. I want to make more than one. I bought fabric to make two so far and am working on the first one. Anyone make one yet? Anyone have pictures they'd like to share?

Lots of inspiration here on this board. In the picture gallery.

Here is a free pattern how to make one panel of the French Braid.

I agree they are pretty. I'm collecting fabric to make one using homespun cotton. I'll give you the link; I never considered homespun until I saw this and now I know it'll be the first french braid that I make.

I made some table runners from this design, and quite frankly - I didn't like making them. I could not chain sew them, and I had to stop with every new piece to be sewn on. That chain sewing is addictive. But, the french braids are beautiful.

they are not new-first book came out 5 or 6 years ago-- many of us here on the board have made them- browse the picture section to see many variations- there are 2 more 'newer' french braid books out ---french braid obsession and French braid transformation-
french braids are one of my all time favorites to make :) enjoy the process & be sure & show us pictures when you get yours done

I've made two french braids. Both turned out pretty. Here's the last one I did for my DDIL. They can be addictive! Have fun! This was before quilting and binding.

I love french braid quilts...they are very easy to do! Helpful hint though, starch your fabric! Your braid segments will be bias on the edges, so handle carefully.
