I just picked up a new Brother PE-770 last night, I am unpacking it out of the box this morning. I am scheduled for a class in 2 weeks, in the mean time they told me to familiarize myself with the machine.

Any advice from the experts would be appreciated. What accessories should I be looking at?

I have the brother quattro 6000D and never took a class. I chose brother because their machines are very user friendly. Just read over your manual first. (unless you're a man...LOL)

Can't help you because mine is new to me. But congratulations!!! I hear as bamamama says that Brother is very user friendly. I have the Babylock version of the Quattro and chose the line because they are intuitive.

Read your book and acquaint yourself with each part and piece of the machine. Practice threading, winding the bobbin, check out stabilizers and their differences. Go to a LQS, fabric store or sewing store that carries thread and familiarize with these. Machine embroidery is a whole new world and yes you will truly enjoy it.

I don't have that machine but you will need tons of different stabilizers, thread and designs. If you are going to applique, there is a double curved pair of scissors that I found to be extremely helpful. There is also Peggy's stitch eraser that is amazing for "do-overs".

Brother is very user friendly. I took mine out of the box and started embroidering right away. there are places you can get samplers of different stabilizers-allstitch might be one-and you will need an assortment of thread. I have coats and clark and maderia/robeson that i use. I watch for sales. embroidery Library has beautiful designs at very reasonable prices. Have fun!

Congratulations! I just got mine too. There is no Brother dealer here, so I am teaching myself. So far it's not too hard. I just keep the book handy and follow the instructions as I try a new step. I've already made several small things, and I've only had mine a week. Enjoy the classes. Oh, I want the other hoop sizes. Amazon carries a kit that includes several items for $99, a pretty good savings on "each" prices.

I've had 3 brother embroidery machines, loved them all, I have a Innovis 4000D now, think that's my last one for a while, I embroider on EVERYTHING.

Read your manaual! It's your new best friend.

ALWAYS turn your machine off before cleaning the bobbin area of dust and thread debris. I didn't once and knocked my sensors out of whack.

I don't buy/use a ton of stabilizers. I use a lot of the sticky stabilizer, You hoop the stabilizer, then just press the project down on the stabilizer and it holds really good. I also put water soluble stabilizer on top of every project I do because it keeps the threads from sinking down in the fabric. Both are pricey but if you use your 40% off Joanns coupon it's manageable. And when notions are on sale, it's 50% off.

I have cutaway stabilizer but I rarely use it so if you get any it will probably last forever. I have used lined paper, computer paper, and used dryer sheets for stabilizer. If you need stronger stabilizer, just add more sheets.

I buy my supplies at Threadart. They have sheets of stabilizer really cheap, 200 for less than $20, they are iron on but I never iron them on, just stick them in the hoop. They also sell polyester high sheen thread in sets reasonably priced. They aren't name brand like Isacord, but I bought the sets for the class I teach and my kids have never had any problems with it and the results have been beautiful.

The only thing I stocked up on when I got my machine was bobbins. I mostly only use black or white thread, mostly white. After I am done with a project I thread more bobbins. I usually have 6 white and 3 black when I start a new project. The other thing I bought was extra hoops, they are so dang expensive, but I bought an extra one in the 2 sizes I use the most so I can have one in the machine and one mounted and ready to go when the one in the machine is done. I do a lot of multiple projects.

I just got my second Brother PE 770...it embroiders great! But I can't make the automatic threader work...could you PM me a picture of your auto threader (if it works!) Mine will come down, but nothing goes toward the needle.

I've found the threader won't work if your needle is in wrong-Rita

I find a 4" pair of embroidery scissors indepensible for snipping jump threads and tidying up the backside of embroidery.

And a thread sock for upper thread, to help thread flow smoothly. Hopefully, you got some with your machine. (When I got my machine, I had no idea what that thing was. LOL)

Enjoy your new machine. I bought my brother used a couple of years ago. Brothers are user friendly. I have used mine to make several baby quilts and am currently quilting a queen size quilt. Online you can find many places to download designs. Coffee filters make excellent stabelizers for small projects.
