I have an old singer sewing machine with the serial number AF365482 on it. It is in really bad shape and the cabinet that it was in is destroyed. Now the question is this one of the Featherweights? Is it worth fixing? My father had bought it at an auction and he passed in 2004 so I have had it since then, but didn't know about Featherweights then. Thanks Faye

Faye, without seeing a pic I don't think it's a FW b/c they didn't have cabinets.
They had tables that looked almost like a card table with an insert.

It is worth fixing. These old ladies are great stitching machines. The stitches are beautiful and the machine is easy to maintain.

Go to this site and ask about it. Several pages back are links to tutorials for Billy's three step cleaning process. Sounds like yours would be a candidate for a kerosene bath. Members don't have their own sites per se. It's just that Billy (Lostn52) has written tutorials for restoring the vintage and antique machines and has graciously made them available to all members. If you follow the Vintage Sewing Machine Shop, you'll learn TONS about the old gals and how to make them purr. Hold on to your baby, and just treat her to a spa day. She'll never wear out.
