I'm trying to justify buying a featherweight. I already have 3 machines. And I use them all. Then I got to thinking, dh has 7 or 8 or 10 fishing poles. Not sure how many - never actually counted them. I have no idea how much fishing poles cost and I don't care how much money he spends on anything!! We never complain about each others' spending. We're both so tight we squeak when we walk, so we don't spend money foolishly. Is equating fishing poles and sewing machines a fair comparison?

sure it is. I try to compare my husbands tools to my fabric but he's a mechanic and he makes money with his tools and I have yet to try to sell one of my quilts. Good luck

LOL, do you really need justifiaction? They are just SO darn cute......that would be my "justification", lol!

Probably not, but if you don't spend foolishly, then he probably doesn't care, if he wants to spend his time alone while fishing! (it'll keep you out of his hair.....??!!)

LOL, dh and i have a rule, you can never have too much fishing or quilting stuff as long as all the bills are paid. I think sewing machines cost a bit more than poles, but if he has a fish finder.....

You both have your personal joys/ hobbies. Who ever said " you are only allowed to have X amount of machines?" If it doesn't cause problems with you and DH go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also feel quilty SOMETIMES...but then it disappears and I buy what I want...My husband unfortunately encourages me and I'm the cheap one. If it weren't for him I would have never bought my first expensive Husqvarna SE seeing that 4 mths prior I invested in a cheap if you call 800.00 cheap embroidery only machine. To cover myself from feeling guilty as I did this wk when I bought an Accu GO cutting machine I got stuff I need to rid myself of and put them on ebay and some quilting books I don't use anymore on this site to make the money back...That's how I solve my guilt I sell...

Well justification is not in my vocabulary....so it's hard for me to understand the conundrum (as in a difficult problem for you). I have found that anyone who wants/needs a justification for whatever... the possibilites are limitless. It's either a want/need and depending on your financial situation the answer should be clear. I never use the comparison of what I have for my quilting versus what he has for his whatever...it's just not an issue in my home. I don't know if this is helpful to you but I do hope it does help you some to see a different perspective.

hard to say, some fishing poles are a couple of hundred bucks. then there's the reels to go with them. don't forget all the lures and extras. i have 3 machines. 2 of them were about $1700 each. he has about 50 poles, some cheap, some not. he also has a fish finder, several gps's, and a very nice boat! i told him even when i get my longarm i wont be caught up!!!! this, of course, is my excuse for fabric..... it's all fun and games though. we just kid about these things!

My personal opinion? If you feel you have to justify a purchase, you probably shouldn't make it....let alone using a 'toy score' as that justification.
