that is the question. When quilting "to be used quilts" on a home machine, do you knot and hide the knot at the beginning and ending of each section of quilting? I'm outlining each segment of pinwheels and tying two knots on each segment is getting very time consuming. (sigh) What method do you use?

On a "to be used" quilt for home I just overlap the quilting lines with a few small stitches. Start with maybe 3 tiny stitches, quilt, stitch over the beginning little stitches and end with 3 more tiny stitches. I wouldn't have the patience to hand knot.

Backstitch, backstitch, backstitch! Most especially on a machine and I do my handstiching that way also as it just seems easier to me and sturdier.

I start and end with a backstitch. It's worked for me.

I was told to pull the bobbin thread to the top, take a few tiny stitches, then clip the threads. If FMQ, you can make the tiny stitches by barely moving the fabric, if your are SID, I just hold on to the fabric in front to keep it from moving, probably could also shorten the stitch length, then put it back to normal.
