It's a matter of preference. I prefer quilted not tyed but those are the types of old quilts I grew up with the were all quilted.

I agree. Your quilt, your decision. Unless you are hand quilting, however, tying is not necessarily any faster. Babies (and parrots) often untie tied quilts, which may cause problems later. When I want a quick quilt, I do machine quilting in a box pattern: Row A -> RowB <-, then do up and down rows, maybe 4-6" apart. another way to go, if you have a machine with pattern stitches is to do a gridwork of "tacks". My Janome is set up to do those in a Star pattern.*. Some people finish their quilts with machine-sewn buttons. This is not a wise thing for a baby quilt, however.

Our guild show has one category for any tied quilts, I think with the assumption that they are inferior. I disagree but some quilters are very snobbish.

this is what I was thinking, I can always quilt it later and untie the knots after it is quilted :)
