Kona Premium Muslin?
 

I was wondering if anyone can give me a review of the Kona Premium Muslin? I am looking at the 118" wide that Fabric.com sells for $8.98/yd

I've read a lot of people say that this is good for backings and foundation piecing.
I am looking for a fabric I can dye- and will be suitable for using as a main quilting fabric.

Any thoughts?


(I know it is not a prepared-for-dye fabric, and that it won't take dye as well as one, but as long as the sizing is washed out, I think it should still work for first experiments, here I am mostly worried about the hand.)

Love it! I have not dyed it, but as muslins go, it is great. All of the premium muslins I have tried are. It's 200 thread count. Washes up nice, doesn't wrinkle as much as the cheaper muslins.

Make sure it is Kaufman Kona. Kaufman is the manufacturer. There are other "Kona" muslins made by other manufacturers that are not as good as the Kaufman Kona.

I'm hoping I like it as well as I purchased 4 yards of the premium white when it was on sale last week. They wrote me back to say that they only had two 2 yard cuts and would I accept that ... yup!! I didn't have anything specific planned for it (like a backing) so it was no big deal. I was quite pleased they gave me the option to cancel that item from the order or accept what they had.

I might also try my hand at dying it!!

I like it , but have not ever dyed it .

i have dyed this fabric many times---to prepare for dyeing simply pre-wash it- with detergent...no fabric softener...this removes the sizing, any oils & grime that may be on it...it dyes beautifully...one of my go-to favorite backings...muslin just gets softer more beautiful with use, laundering, loving.
i've been buying fabrics from fabric.com for over 10 years - their muslins are some of the best out there. I love the wide fabrics for dyeing my own backs-one of my favorite things to do :thumbup:

I have used it for backgrounds as well as backs and I love it. Unfortunately, it didn't take dye very well. I think the weave is too tight, but the regular muslin is much better when it comes to dyeing.
