I am finishing some of my quilt tops for donation. Does anyone put labels on their donated quilts? If so what information do you include? Thank you ahead of time. :) :) :)

The only info I put down on a charity quilt label is a small label containing care instructions. I make them to be machine wash warm and tumble dried -- someone once suggested to me that people automatically think that if something is handmade that it is delicate for one reason or other.

I put on the label who it is being made for (ie usually Project Linus), when it was made, state I live in & then sign it as "gramajo". For some reason, I'm uncomfortable using my full name on a donated quilt.

Thanks MeeMersMom,

That is a great idea. I feel comfortable now about adding a label that won't be personal or not including one at all. :)

Thank you, too gramajo. I wondered about adding the charity's name (Ronald McDonald House). I think I will combine the two suggestions. :)

The guilds that I belong to provide labels with the guild name and sometimes the date. We don't always know where a quilt is going, so that isn't included, but I think it's a lovely idea if you know that the quilt was made for a specific organization.

The one I just did I wrote on the back corner the name of the wallhanging which was also the name of the benefit, by my name (which happens to be a fairly common name) and the date.

I print mine out and I usually put my motto "A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel" and I prayed for you as I made this quilt. I don't put my name. I think I will add care instructions too...that was a good idea.

I had some labels made up which say "Made just for you by Annie and my e-mail address". Our Project Linus puts on their own labels.

I added my e-mail address because sometimes a parent or the receiver wants to thank the maker personally for the quilt.

The group I work with give our quilts to several different needy groups so we just sign all our quilts with our group's name and the year........we sign it on the back with a permapen......then we wash the quilt so that it is free of any animal hairs or chemicals when we give it.......nothing personal is on the quilt except the love it was sewn with....

I don't think I would want my name sent all over. Just careful, I guess. I would put the charity or the group I am sewing for and washing instructions. I think that is all that is necessary. You never know where the quilt will end up.

It sounds like everyone has a plan that works well for them. With all of your thoughtful answers to my question, I now have a plan that should work for me. I think I will include care instructions, the name of the charity, the date and the message that it was "Made with Love for You" from Tillie. That's one of my Mother's nicknames for me. That gives them a name and yet it isn't giving personel information. I loved all of your help. Thank you. It is wonderful to know I can come here for quick solutions whatever my inquiry. :)

A lot of charities are very specific about what can go on the label. You might check with the charity of your choice to see what they say.
