My son is 6'4" and I just purchased 3 1/2 yards of fleece to make him a blanket with the crocheted edge. I was just struggling with all of this material and was wondering if you had any tips on how I can square up all of this fabric, as I do not have a huge cutting mat. Maybe these blankets are very forgiving and squaring is not an issue, but I need help!

Trim the ends so they're straight if the fabric store didn't do so. Cut off the selvages as straight as possible and that should be enough. If the corners are 45 degree angles and the sides look straight, that's a good as it gets with fleece.

Remove the selvages and use a square ruler to square your corners. Project Linus carries and sells skip blades to use on fleece. You take the blade and place it in a 45mm rotary cutter. Using a ruler, roll the blade about .5" in from the raw edge and the blade makes small perforations to use for crocheting and edge around the fleece. You can go to www.projectlinus.org and purchase one and they accept paypal for payment.

Thanks for all of the tips. I already have the skip blade from Project Linus and can put the holes in, but was overwhelmed with all the fabric and how to square it up.

Maybe you could fold it in half and cut the selvages off using a T-square of long ruler from each side. That would be my only suggestion. Yardage is tough for me to work with.

I take a coffee cup or a cereal bowel and round the corners. A lot easier to go around them.
