I have a vacation coming up and it will be my first since I've started quilting. I was thinking of learning how to hand piece so I could take a project with me.
Where is the best resource for hand quilting online? I am starting from scratch... not sure if there are special needles, thread, stitches, ect. I was thinking of doing Grandmothers Flower Garden... is that a good choice? |
I love making the Grandmother flower garden

GFG is a great choice for hand piecing.
If you can find a video of Jinney Beyer demonstrating how she hand pieces (found this years ago in our library), that is the absolutely fastest way to do it. Basically she manipulates the fabric onto the needle tip -- instead of moving the needle in and out of the fabric. Otherwise, there seem to be a lot of hand piecing videos on Youtube that you could watch. |

I have a pattern for a lovely little quilt that is hand pieced, and you quilt as you go. It is very easy to take along. If you would like, you can p.m. me and I will be glad to share it with you. Pam

I'm an experienced quilter (some days not so!LOL) and I used the larger hexagons. I believe mine are 2.5 across. However this is a good project for lots of hand sewing. Are you going to hand sew on the seam line or are you going to piece using english paper piecing? Either way have lots of fun! |
