When quilting in the corner of a top, remember to TRIPLE check to see that the back is out where it's supposed to be NOT tucked under so you need to UNDO all the stitching to get it out.

Sigh... all these lessons just confirm why I like making tops WAY more than quilting. :x

dunster 01-30-2010 10:26 AM

Been there, done that. Repeatedly.

amma 01-30-2010 10:27 AM

Oh!!!! I feel your pain!!! I too have fallen victim to this :( :( :(

skowjudy 01-30-2010 10:27 AM

Thanks for the info.

jacee kay 01-30-2010 10:29 AM

I've been there and done that. I hate to unsew!

sunkistmi 01-30-2010 10:45 AM

I thought I was the ONLY one that did this, hehe. When did 'ripping out' become politically uncorrect and 'unsew' came in?

samroberts01 01-30-2010 10:59 AM

Did this one too!

Quilter7x 01-30-2010 11:00 AM

Been there, done that as well. You're not alone. :)

boxerlady 01-30-2010 11:06 AM

That's a big ooops!

Deb watkins 01-30-2010 11:12 AM

And when the turned under corner is all secured with stippling......

Dora Taggart 01-30-2010 11:15 AM

I think all of us have sewn like a frog rippit.....LOL

watterstide 01-30-2010 11:15 AM

me too, i am the same, would rather cut, piece and then put it all together..then i just sort of fold it and put it in a pile for quilting at a later date.

MadQuilter 01-30-2010 11:21 AM

I'm with you there! MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer the tops. You must be pretty darn good though if it takes to 2780 to learn that.

littlehud 01-30-2010 11:28 AM

Oh I have done that. Glad I was home alone so I could vent.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-30-2010 12:23 PM

I've done that too.

Margie 01-30-2010 12:30 PM

I dont think there is a lesson number of what NOT to do , that I dont do REPEATEDLY lol. Sharing your pain.

Margie

Ditter43 01-30-2010 12:43 PM

While quilting the"quilts for kids"the other day, I did that same thing...not once...but twice!!!I'm glad I wasn't doing a stippling stitch!!!I guess it can always be worse.

Ditter

Patchwork Pam 01-30-2010 04:58 PM

Thank you. I feel better.

Olivia's Grammy 01-30-2010 05:05 PM

Were you hand quilting or machine? Not that it matters. Ripping is ripping. I've had to rip while on the long arm without taking it off the frames. Hope I don't have to do it again.

MistyMarie 01-30-2010 05:07 PM

Boy howdy... I've done that a few times too!

barnbum 01-30-2010 05:08 PM

Machine--very tight stitches so the paper would rip easily afterwards.

I'm almost done quilting baby top #2. One more to go, but since I'm keeping that one, it can wait. Or, maybe I should finish it now while I'm practiced up. The new tops ideas are calling so loudly!

Marcia 01-30-2010 05:09 PM

I did not realize that was lesson # 2781---my manual stops at lesson # 2468. I guess that is why I have repeatedly made this mistake myself. :)

I feel your pain, Karla. And it always happens when we think everything is going so well.

barnbum 01-30-2010 05:13 PM

That is so true! Everything was going well. But, as is my usual fashion, I was sewing between doing wash loads, answering emails, and taking water to horses... I need to focus.

nursie76 01-30-2010 05:17 PM

Been there, done that, more times than I can count. I soooo much prefer piecing to quilting....except when the quilting is going really well....which is when I find a glitch and have to unsew!!!!!!!

sandpat 01-30-2010 05:18 PM

I must be at the EXACT same spot in the darn lesson book! I did that same thing yesterday! GRRRRRR!!!!

so..it looks like you have plenty of company with this one.

Bill'sBonBon 01-30-2010 05:29 PM

Well try doing it twice in the same place!!!! Quilting and :D how nice, done. Look at the back  it is flipped over and quilted to back :x . Rip out, make sure it is where it suppose to be :) Start quilting again, :D Get it done :-D . There I did it again how :?: I have no idea :XD: Rip out very, very carefully  MAKE SURE it is in place and smooth plus putting a pin in. Got it! :-D This was free motion quilting.  BillsBonBon

aliaslaceygreen 01-30-2010 05:37 PM

Is there a list of the other 2780 so we can read up??
BTDT!!

pam1966 01-30-2010 08:57 PM

I'm so glad I'm not alone in doing this.

Not to change the subject, but ... is it just me or ... do you all "get your wrists slapped" every time you think how wonderful and smoothly things are going and/or how very clever you are? It happens to me every time I get too smug. I'm like the watchdog on a long chain who gets to running very fast and suddenly runs out of chain and gets flung in the mud on its butt. There's a lesson to be learned there somewhere.

Ditto!!! Once I didn't see the booboo until I had the whole thing trimmed and the binding sewed on....uggghhh!!!

Mamagus 01-31-2010 04:51 AM

Oh Karla! I feel your angst! LOL I finished a laptop this week for my SIL 50th birthday. It is the FIRST quilt that I didn't have to undo some quilting because of that!

barnbum 01-31-2010 04:54 AM

Well, I must say, we certainly are plum full of perseverance. Quilters never give up! Go quilters!

Stitchnripper 01-31-2010 06:39 AM

As you all can see by my "name", I am famous for doing that, more than once, and too many other oopsies to even keep track off

sewnsewer2 01-31-2010 07:21 AM

Me too, been there done that and it is so frustraiting!!

I think this is where the saying "pride goeth before the fall" comes from!

Debo 02-02-2010 10:52 AM

Did this last night. LOL

Tink's Mom 02-02-2010 10:57 AM

Need I explain that my 2nd favorite sewing tool is my handy dandy seam ripper....#1 of course is the machine...

IBQUILTIN 02-02-2010 11:16 AM

I just did that yesterday. What a pain. And I thought I was almost done. Boo Hoo
