Lets Build a Better Iron
 

I was thinking about the recent post about the iron that caught fire. My iron is new and I was leaving it plugged in until I read that post. Now I unplug it, but it is a pain to get to the plug every time so Why can't we have an iron that can be unplugged at the iron! No more crawling under the table. What do you think?

I think that would be fab. I have a hand mixer that does that and I love it!!! I would love that for my iron also.

That sounds like a great idea, maybe you should shop it to the companies that sell irons.

Wow, just get a patent on that design and you could get rich. A really good idea.

There could still be a problem with the cord or wiring.

But I agree - one of the reasons I don't unplug my iron every time is that it is hard for me to reach down to the outlet.

Well, probably because you would have an open ended, live wire laying around just waiting for an unsuspecting child or pet to get zapped. Then there is the fire hazard the cord itself presents by being live and laying on carpet (not good) or getting coiled up and shoved out of the way, then over heating because it can't disperse the heat created from the current.

Get a power strip with a rating to handle an iron (it says on the package what they can handle) and a cord long enough to reach your work area, to make it easy to turn the power to the iron off with the rocker switch on the strip.
