Shopping on ebay for handcrafted goods is like comparing Wal-Mart prices and quality to Macy's. You have differing price points, market focus, and quality expectations.

Yes, you'll sometimes find high quality items at low prices at Wal-Mart--I'm not arguing that. I shop there. I'm not a snob. Comparing ebay to a store whose focus is on handcrafted items is just apples to oranges.

Try looking on etsy.com for quilts for sale.

When you look at etsy, be sure to see how many have sold. There is an artist or two on there with several quilts listed for thousands of dollars each. But if you look closely, you see that she hasn't actually SOLD any. Sometimes that is a marketing ploy. If I post a baby quilt for $500, a shopper will be surprised and interested to see what I sell that is worth $500. I might have 3 other baby quilts listed for $100, which will suddenly seem very reasonable.

$100 is very reasonable for a nice baby quilt.

A lot goes into that...

price of fabric/supplies
ease/difficulty of piecing
amount of quilting
time spent doing it

Keep track of all the time and supplies and see what you can reasonably sell your time for...

My mom used to tell me supplies x 3 would give you a good price. But I've looked at that and sometimes, I would make barely anything per hour...

Hi! I have a question that goes along with this.

My mom has a coworker that would like this quilt made. All the applique is done by hand. I could provide the fabric from my stash. I have told her I would only make the top--she would have to take it to the LQS to have it quilted.

What should I charge?

I normally only custom cut fabric for people, not actually make the quilt, so I am at a loss...
