Our small quilt group just bought an Accuquilt Go from club funds, and today I tried cutting out a few blocks. I was a bit disconcerted at what the cutting mat looked like after cutting only about 30 blocks - now I am a little worried about how long these cutting mats last.


Can anyone give me an estimate on the life expectancy of the average mat please? For instance, would you need to buy a new one every time you wanted to cut out the blocks for one quilt? Or would one mat last longer/shorter?

They will get quite scratched up with use, but they'll work just fine. As long as you're getting consistent cuts with them you don't need to replace them
It is good practise to keep an extra set around because, Murphy's law being what it is, the day you have a ton of cutting to do, that'll be the day one either breaks or stops working for you!
just my opinion - used similar Sizzix products for scrapbooking for years, and years and didn't replace them.

I just purchased a GO! and am too amazed at how fast the cutting mat looks very used. After watching a lot of youtube videos I have discovered that you should rotate the mat as much as possible, boths sides can be used. Also if you have a static build up problem you can run a unscented dryer sheet through it along with your fabric, good thing to know cause I thought I'd have to send it back. Can't use something I'm afraid to touch and I was having a devil of a time removing the cut strips/squares from the mat & die. Youtube has a gold mine of videos to watch. Happy cutting!

Thank you for the prompt replies - I can see the sense in having a spare of each, but wondered if each of us in the group should perhaps invest in her own mats, and we just share the dies. This is the first time we have bought anything other than books as a group, so we are still trying to work out the best way of organising it.
