to keep and use fabric I don't like anymore. I am organizing my fabric cabinet onto boards. After wrapping about a dozen boards of fabric that is dark and dull colored (I'm into brights-not sure why I bought these) I decided I am NOT going to force myself to use fabric that I don't love. No guilt allowed.

When I get it all sorted I'll be listing it (for cheap!).

I take the fabric I don't like anymore to my sew group. Someone there will just love it. I'll see it later used in a quilt and it looks so much nicer then when I had it!

Good for you. I did something similar last year. I did not buy fabric for over a year. I donated fabric I knew that I would not use to friends and schools. I am slowly building up my stash and really enjoying it. A lot better second time round.

Good for you! I'll be watching for that listing, I tend to be drawn to darker fabrics. lol

Gale, I totally agree with you. I got rid of stuff I knew I'd never use and haven't missed one piece!

I like your thought, but in the same line of thinking, keep in mind when you make a quilt for others. I tend to work only on things I like but every once in a while there is the odd loved one who likes something I hate but my love for them helps me overcome the dislike and get their quilt done. I believe that when you give a gift it has to be to the taste of the recipient. So many words to say that you should hold on to some. You never know who may like it later. Also, your taste changes. You may like them again.

You make a wonderful point...I was in the fabric store getting some flannel for my husbands backing and what I liked he was like YUK...sadly there was not a lot of choices for quilting flannel but the price was right. I was surprised on the one he chose, he would not have chose that one if there were more choices as hi says all girly fabrics....he ended up picking a poka dot one. LOL....I think in the future when making quilts for others I will try and have them pick out the fabrics.

I have brought fabric and even yarn that I don't like or have no plans to use, to my weekly quilt group. Everyone is so appreciative and they have even brought fabrics that they gave me that I loved....it was a win, win situation.

I have fabric that I wonder "What was I thinking"? My taste have changed somewhat even though I have been quilting for just two years. I like light colored fabrics more now than the darks I started out buying. What I do with the fabrics I don't care for is use it to make sample blocks or practice fabrics. My daughter has used some for embroidery applique. I looks different in small pieces.

I have been making pot holders with the ones I really don't care for and then FMQ on them for practice.
