Has anyone noticed a change in the lighting at Joanns? I was at the Henrietta, NY one and they have reduced the light by half. There is no row of lighting in front of the quilting fabric, and very little in home dec. I had a terrible time trying to match colors. I had to walk to a row where there was some light. When I finally had made my selections, and went to the cutting table, two of the fabrics had to go back, because they did not match. There is light at the cutting counter. What is up with this? Some corporate idiot's idea of cost cutting?

I haven't noticed that in my store yet.

Maybe its a way of getting you to browse more, that way you buy more, as if we need help spending money on fabric! The wal mart here does that also. But instead of the lights staying out all the time it rotates around so the lights are constantly coming on and off. I had to ask what the heck? as one of the employees came by and they said it was a way of saving energy.

sounds like they are conserving electricity. They have all downsized employees. There are articles in Wall Street Journal the past year or so on how these bigger companies are tightening up on expenses.

Electric prices are suppose to sky rocket maybe, they are conserving electric for cheaper bills.

Ours went up around 16 percent higher.

There is a brand new Joann's in Bend, OR that has hands down the MOST fabulous lighting I have ever seen in a store. Incredible bright lighting, not harsh, sooo easy to see and match fabrics. Sure hope they don't change. It's such a pleasure to shop there!!

I haven't noticed any change, however, my bff gave me a little portable Ott light for Christmas. It's palm sized, really cute and it works well for matching fabric when there is no natural light available. Think she got it at Michaels.

This sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

When you say portable, does it run on batteries?

What a great gift!

I love my LQS, but there are areas where the lighting is not so great - I'm always carrying bolts to the windows.

I haven't noticed but it is probably a cost-saving measure disguised as "green living" - I have noticed it in other stores and found myself taking bolts of fabric to the window (gets me weird looks at times).

I have noticed this in some of the chain grocery stores too... as well as the heat being turned down in the winter and the A/C in the summer LOL

I also take my bolts to a window, even at a LQS to check for true colors :D:D:D
