A year ago, when my husband was refinishing my dining room into my sewing room, I thought I was doing so well. I found the Ott wanna be-s at Odd Lots and Kmart, for a much cheaper price so bought 1 table and 2 floor styles.

After 8 months, 2 died, and I knew I'd have to wait for a lull in my husband's work to send them back. They had a 2 year warranty. Just the other day, the 3rd one died. Figures, now there's time to send them. But, I don't think I'm going to waste my money shipping them back, or my time. I noticed on the reviews posted by others that this particular company sold inferior products, too bad I didn't look into that before. One even suggested keeping the original packing, because they will have to be returned.

The light they gave out, when they worked, was wonderful, just wonderful.

I know Ott lights are popular, and I have found out that Joann's is quite overpriced, even with a coupon. My question is, from your experience, are they of what you consider good quality?

I have 5 (don't ask, but yes, 5) of these bulbs

I would really like to buy lights that use them.

Anyone got any experience to add? I'd hate to buy these and wish I would have asked before I bought them

I've come across other brands too, Daylight comes to mind right now. Anyone with experience with then?

There are Ott lightbulbs available at Lowes' or Home Depot which are shaped like regular bulbs and screw into ordinary lamps. That's what I use. Doesn't need any special fixture or lamp.

I love my ottlight, wasn't that bad with the coupon, maybe like 30 bucks for the small task one. I just sit it behind my machine

My 2 Ott lights are about 15 yrs. old & I have never changed a bulb. I love the goose neck one that clamps to my sewing cabinet/table & I can shift around to wherever I'm working. It make a lot of light as I don't have ceiling lights & spent many all nighters sewing away. I have the smaller flip up one on top of a chest of drawers that lights up my cutting/ironing board.

Have you tried wiggleing the bulb. I have to do this to mind.

I think mine use the same light bulb as yours. Can you tell me the reference
on your light bulb so I can confirm? I bought the light fixture from Menards.
The brand is Full Spectrum. Is it the same brand?

We have several Ott's. The last 2 just purchased within the month. They were $129.99 on sale for $29.99 with free shipping. The problem was with the original shipment, the lamp shade was all enclosed...so with the sale they sent free replacement shades that were done correctly. The note online when I ordered, said free replacement shades will be sent because there could be a damaged shade in the order. We are always getting good offers/prices from Ott since our first online order several years ago.

Update:
I had read some reviews on another site in which someone had a Grandrich light, and rather than sending the light back, the company sent them the ballast for it. (I'm not sure what a ballast is, but it sounds very electrical)
So, I called the company, and the guy didn't argue with me or anything, he's sending me the ballasts! They must have had quite a few go bad. My husband's extremely handy, but fine electrical work is not something he's done so he made a face, but I explained, we were going to toss them anyways, we have 3 here, lots to practice on!

(I've seen the Full Spectrum brand and the Daylight brand)

I don't bother with those expensive Ott lights, I simply purchase "full spectrum" bulbs.

I prefer halogen lights myself. Granted, the get hot but I get a very clean, bright light with them. Use them for my hand work, extra light on my cutting table when I need it and even have them attached under my kitchen cabinets for task lighting.
