Linus Quilts?
 

I would like to do some "charity" quilting for children. Do any of you do the Linus Quilts?
I want to know the basic rules for these....such as can you tie them or do they need to
be quilted? And the sizes that they want them to be?

Be sure to connect with the local Project Linus coordinator. People donate fabric, yarn, batting, thread and UFO quilt tops. Each coordinator works differently. When I lived in San Jose, CA the group met monthly to hear a speaker, do show & tell and then check out the latest donations in the fabric, etc collection. The coordinator in the Port Angeles, WA area has "thank you" gatherings twice a year and hands out certificates noting the number of items a "blanketeer" has donated. I've been in WA for 3 years and recently got a certificate for 200+ quilts......the winters are wet and cold so I have plenty of time to work through my never ending fabric stash!!

I have done LinusProject for over 5 years now and it is so rewarding. Find a group and join it, everyone is a little different and the site has great patterns free.

I was Linus coordinator for Philadelphia for 4 years. It's a great project. the kids love the quilts, and their parents are very touched that a stranger would take the time and effort to make a quilt for their child. Hospitals are lonely, boring places, and scary for many kids. the bright colored quilts are a big hit.

I'd suggest you contact your local chapter's coordinator. Different chapters have different needs based on what their facilities want. In our Philly chapter, we do a lot for local hospitals and need different sizes all the time. We get a lot of baby blankets and quilts but we never have enough for older kids.
