I saw a table runner that had a Log Cabin Star and truly loved it. It combined the log cabin block and had star tips around it and would love to know how or where I can find a pattern like this. Please don't say ebay, would prefer to support some of the ladies and quilt shops that frequent here on the board.

Its called the Star Spin Pattern. If you look under JanRN she did one thats beautiful. She could probably tell ya where she got the pattern. I have it but haven't done it yet but after seeing hers I want to get it out and do it too. Good luck

Look at tutorials here. I am pretty sure there is one.

jdiane318 03-11-2011 09:20 AM

I am talking about a traditional log cabin block that looks like a sawtooth star when the points are added. It isn't the star spin or on point, it is a square block.

Like this?
It's just 10 Log Cabin blocks and 4 corner blocks (although, you could out LG blocks there too if you wanted).

No, but I sure appreciate the time and effort you made to help me.

Maybe this is easier, a Sawtooth Star block and the middle is a log cabin. Just a single block is all.

It was nothing. I had those as I've been contemplating something like that for a while.

Is this it maybe? Just the block?

Eleanor Burns has a Quilt in a Day book called Log Cabin Star or something like that. I have plans to make one some day and the trick to the star is in the sashing. I have many of the log cabin blocks done. It's my vacation take-along project with blue & white scraps.

Like, how easy it that, right?

@Bkrenning -
Ah, well that's a possibility. I wouldn't have come up with that based on the OP's description, but it's certainly a nice layout.

The colors won't come through for some odd reason but it is a traditional log cabin block--red in the center, white on one side & blue on the other and they are arranged in a very large starburst pattern. Between each block is a sashing strip in blue with little yellow flying geese on each end and yellow corner stones between each strip.

Aha! I figured out how to get it into color!

This is it, would you happen to have measurements on how to make this block? (hint, hint)

BellaBoo 03-11-2011 12:37 PM

Sew two triangles on each end of the sashing corners and then sew the ends to a solid block.

Diane - it is a sashed log cabin- the dark blue is the sashing with a star at the end of it.

I'm glad. ;-)
It totally depends on big you want it. I could give you the measurements for a 5" block but I doubt you want that.
If you're happy with the proportions of the image, let me the know the finished block size you want.

Fons & Porter love of Quilting magazine, Dec 2010 has a log cabin star table runner done in a Christmas print. Beautiful topper. A bugger to do. My scrappy group is working on this. Everyone having difficulity. The centers are diamonds instead of squares. Gorgous when finished

Thanks to MTS for helping me with what I needed. I have offered her something in return for all her help and she didn't even acknowledge my email. If someone knows MTS, please pm me so that I can send her something nice. thanks.

MTS 03-12-2011 08:08 PM

I thought I did.
I need nothing. Really.

jdiane318 03-12-2011 08:39 PM

Please let me do something. You took a lot of time to help me and I want to show my appreciation in a small way. What do you collect or is there a color you love, just something. I truly want to do this.

Here's a pic of some of the fabrics I am going to use for this, got them today.

MTS 03-13-2011 02:09 PM

Is this for the quilt or table runner? And what goes where?

Wait, don't tell. Show us when you're done.
