I was wondering if you could buy a long arm quilting frame and put your sewing machine on it or does it have to be a certain kind of machine for just quilting?

I have a singer xL 1000 and a husq #1+ would any of these machine work on a quilting frame?

thanks , hope this isn't to dumb of a question..LOL

I have a grace start right frame I bought thru Kathysquilts.com and it uses a domestic sewing machine. I think there are quite a lot of frames that do but they are considered short or mid arm frames, I think.

many frames use your DSM. the issue is that there is very little quilting space once you roll your quilt to the far end. i just finished a king with my Juki TL98Q. However, there was a lot of rolling and i had to be creative with the patterns use.

I just put my Juki 2010 on a Mini Pinni Pinacle frame and quilted my first framed quilt this way. Went way faster than pushing the fabric through the Juki. The patterns are a concern but as long as they aren't too big you should be able to do anything. Meandering is probably the best bet to start.

If you have less than 9 inches of throat space I dont think I would try it. Not enough room once you start rolling your quilt.

Thanks to all for your help and all the information on quilt frames and a sewing machine..

I may try one with my machine but will have to do some thinking on this first,

Thank all

Does it work to use a computerize machine? I have a Janome Memory Craft 10001, combo machine. I read on another post that you should have some type of stitch regulator on the machine and that it doesn't work with computerized machines. Anyone have any more info on this?

Thanks.

Only strait stitch machines can be used with a frame and stitch regulator.
If you look up stitch regulators it will show which machines you can use with them.
These are cheaper machines like the Brother 1500s which I found for 599 on line. The Janome 6600 is one I think.
These machines are around 9 1/2 inch throats.
I dont know if you can use a computerized machine but do know you cant get a stitch regulator for one.
