Well, once you start......

Let me introduce you to http://quiltshops.com/. You just pop in what you're looking for in the search field, and results from over 200 stores will pop. Make sure to choose the "thumbnail" option.

A few things to keep in mind:

The results are only as good as the descriptions put in by the individual shops. So sometimes you need to "attack" your search with different word combos.

At the bottom of the first page of results, you can choose to have 104 fabrics show per page - choose it - makes the viewing much easier.

If you go back in and do the same search twice, you will get the same results but in a different order. This is so each shop can get first placement.

I have never had a problem with any shop on quiltshops.com - and if there was an issue, it was always calmly rectified by the shop.

(No need to go bat-sh!! crazy and start a thread threatening to go to the Attorney General because your fabric order was 5 days late, or you heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that a particular shop had terrible service. Just saying. ;-) )

There are a few other big online sites that are NOT part of quiltshops.com and are always worth checking out to compare prices/shipping/selection.

This works the same way as quiltshops.com but with a whole slew of other stores. I can't say I'm thrilled with their presentation format :roll: but I have found fabrics in the shops represented here that I couldn't elsewhere.

And again, it's just a service for aggregating all the results. If you see fabrics from 2 different stores, you'll have to place 2 different orders, directly with the stores, and pay shipping twice.

So it pays to look a bit further to see if you can get as many fabrics from one place to cut down on the shipping. Sometimes you can, and sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Also, prices vary greatly between stores. You have to make your own decisions about what a fabric is worth to you (and the applicable shipping charge). Everyone has a different threshold.

There are sites that specialize in certain "genres" of fabrics. Orientals, 30's, CivilWar repro's, etc. You'll stumble over them in your travels.

I will gladly post a picture of the finished quilt when i get it done, this hopefully does not take long to put together. It is a gift, luckily not until the summer.
