Looking for a gold thread for hand quilting

I am looking for a quality "hand quilting suitable" shiny gold thread to use on a bedrunner I am making for my 8 year old DGD. I initially purchased Sulky hologlimmer but it breaks easily.

I don't know if there is a metallic thread suitable for hand quilting. You can try to work with the metallics offered for machine quilters by using short lengths and a thread conditioner like Thread Heaven to help reduce breakage. This worked for me on the one project where I used metallic thread - I also made sure that I didn't let the thread fray in the needle eye by moving it after every stitch.

I did try an experiment with the Sulky hologlimmer, using the back stitch shown in the videos on this site: http://www.jacquieharvey.co.uk/

Jacquie Harvey's work is beautiful, and it worked really well with the thread - with the back stitch more of the stitch is visible so the piece glimmered.

I hope this helps.

Use one strand of DMC specialty floss. There are great shinny gold colors to choose from.
