Has anyone sewn one up? I would like to make one. I have a panel William Morris Cats, I looked at it last night, but the days do not count as they do on a calendar, the numbers 1-25 are here and there. I think that a young child needs the numbers all in a row. Would like to make one myself and wondered if anyone else had done one without purchasing a pattern. Thanks.

Sometimes the numbers are like that so a child has to look to recognize and find the numbers. Could you fussy cut the numbers and still use the one you had in mind?

I think if you google Quilted Advent Calendars, you will find lots of ideas and/or patterns. I made several one year tht were christmas trees with pockets for a treat or something.

Just saw a cute one at a quilt show that was rows of train cars, they didn't have the numbers in a row, but you could if you wanted.
Those chocolate tree ones aren't in numerical order either. |
We sell the Fabric Freedom Advent Calendar panels like the Morris Cats one you have, which was last year's model (It's so cute!).
The numbers are laid out that way simply to help you spread the small sew-on pieces out in a pleasing manner, so you don't have the same pictures next to each other or close. It's a function of how the little pockets are printed. There are no rules about what goes where. If you are working with a child to sew on one a day, it might be fun for the child to locate where the next one is supposed to go, as well. The small pieces are correspondingly numbered. But where they go is really up to you. Lay them out in a configuration that pleases YOU! :-) BTW, Cindy finished this year's Advent calendar and had a lot of fun with it. She did some trapunto work around the figures at the top, and did a little embellishing as well as batting the pockets. It came out really nice.
