Hello, any idea where I can get a larger than 14" inch pattern for a mariner's compass? A paper piecing pattern would be great. I'm not very good at drafting. The only patterns I've come across are 12" and 14". Thanks in advance.

I don't know where you can get a free one. Judy Matheison's books have larger Mariners compass designs but they are not the traditional "split star compass". Her book "Mariners compass setting a new course" has some patterns for 36" compass in it.

Other than that your only choice is to draft one yourself. It is not hard to draft but I have never drafted anything bigger then 16". Judy Matheison's books give complete detail instructions in how to draft as well. I know I sound like an advertisement but sometimes you have to buy a book to get what you want. Her's have been the best I have found. I just tried a google and a several sites make the same recommendation I just did.

You can go to quiltbooksusa.com and search for mariner's compass, you can find several sources for this pattern. You may find what you're looking for there.

Not sure if this will work... just thinking aloud so please excuse my wandering mind.

Would it be possible to take the compass pattern you have/want to a printers and have it enlarged electronically? It would save all the hassle of trying to enlarge it by hand, or figuring out the section measurements.

Best of luck with it
