What a beautiful pattern.

I have seen several versions of the striped star center, but not this color explosion. I suspect the quilter who made this invented this variant. Clever quilter!! Thank you for sharing it. In hard times, good quilters everywhere have done string pieced, scrappy variantions. Scrappy innovation is a large part of our otherwise very traditional art form. Thanks for sharing this.

I love this quilt ! I suggest you piece a braid row together for about 12" or so. You'll see how easy this block can be by starting with a square and adding a triangle each side after your braid section is pieced. I did check out quiltingfamily etsy from dunster's link, she did have one block pictured that you can click on and see a single block construction. I did print off the pics of the other block layouts that quiltingfamily had pictured. Thanks for posting !

Looks like there is a single block to this pattern ( well a block and it's mirror image)
Here's a block that I tried to isolate. If you know how to construct a braid, you should be able to figure it out, but you will need to experiment with the size of the strips. I would start with a white square, then add the braid strips. I think the strip length would be the length of one side of the square plus the width of the strip you are using. trim the sides of the braid, then add the triangles to the sides.
Proportionally, it looks like the square is less than half the size of the finished block, and the strips finish at half the white square width. I think I would go for a 10" block, starting with a 4.5" square (finishes at 4) then 2.5" wide strips, which finish at 2" each.
A smaller version would be a 2.5" starting square and 1.5" braid strips yielding a 5" finished square...

call me crazy here but could you just do a log cabin and then cut the side diagonals off? maybe doing a braid is just as easy w/ not as much waste though.
